[Jan 8] What are you working on this week?

Right now I just got done boiling water and used it it on a bucket of happy frog. I did this a previous year because every time I buy soil it's loaded with fungus gnat eggs. it seems to do the trick. Just pour over soil completly soaking it and place a lid on it for like 30 minutes. Not sure what it does to the beneficial microbes. Probably kills those too.

Filled a 72 cell tray and getting ready to plant my first round of seeds for the season.

I only have one heat mat so I do it in stages starting with my chinense and ending with annums since they grow the fastest.
I'm starting all chinense first too. I'm working on figuring out a project where I have a large water reservoir that's heated with multiple fish tank heaters and pumped through copper coil piping that my trays sit on top of for heating. I'll be able to heat a lot of trays for a fraction of the cost of what multiple heating mats cost. I've seen ones that people have done with dedicated hot water heaters for larger scale propagating but that's a little larger scale than I need.

finally getting around to processing a couple of ferments that were started in october.  The red jalapeno one is so purty!

Pick up some more apples and get the fixins for some reubens. Big ole 6lb slab of flat cut is hanging out in the fridge until then.

Car wouldn't start and i verified it was getting spark. Probably another stinking fuel pump. Had to wait around today for the shop up the street to come get it. Last year my van at least gave me some warning signs before its pump took a dump. This one just died out of the blue.

I might not be germinating any seeds this year I have a dozen plus plants that have survived the great outdoors this winter in the ground.  :)

I'm picking up another citrus tree after work today its a variegated Eureka lemon tree at home depot. Its 4 feet tall and has tons of blooms already and its only $24.95. Its one of these and it will go into a 1/2 wine barrel container.

Far left looks tasty too!

Thanks, d3~  It's a mandarin orange, pineapple, ginger with bits of carrot sweet spicy glaze.

I like the look of your Thai sauce, also.  Can't quite read the ingredients on the label.

ShowMe~  REUBENS!!!!!  YES!  The last couple corned beefs I did from scratch turned out really good, and I'm hankering for more.  Post Pics!

Back out to the kitchen now to clean up the mess~

it uses that garlic chili sauce as a base with sugar, seasoned rice vinegar,  roasted garlic, soy sauce, lots of ginger, plum smoked orange thai, apple smoked white thai, kosher salt and cornstarch.

i've tried a batch with red plum, couldn't really tell much a difference.

Next batch I might try roasted sesame seeds in it.

Mmmmm sounds good!

Coffee pot was acting up. Finally got it to come on but i am soooooooooooooo tired of all the extra electronics in coffee pot. Finally found a commercial quality pot with one damn button ON!!!!

On sale atm at Wally World for $84 delivered. Bunn Velocity Brew BX with a 3year warranty too i think.

Just ordered it.

I would HIGHLY recommend this over the Bunn. It's the same price if you shop around.

Bonavitas are the best on the market and this is their no frills version, one button like the Bunn. It is all BPA-free plastic (unlike Bunn guts) and it is SCAA certified to brew at 200 degrees (unlike the Bunn). After brewing the warmer keeps it at 185 and shuts off after 40 minutes. It's the best "piping hot" "no frills" maker on the market.

I had that BUNN also, not inexpressive at all.

I see two problems with this. First is that there is clearly no power cord (which I imagine is an optional but necessary accessory). Second problem, the fact that it comes with coffee already in it, is going to add to shipping cost due to weight restrictions.. I would have done a little more research. Just sayin

Too late. The Brunn is ordered. Couldnt pass it up for $84 with free shipping. My old pot left me stranded yesterday and i got it to work today. No coffee in the morning makes me cranky :D

Got some rye bread but not marbled. I also got some Emmi Emmentaler and Boars Heads Lacey Swiss for the reubens. Im having kimchi stew tonite though.
