Show Us Your Pubes! Group GLOG From The Rocoto Giveaway

I am starting this thread for folks who received some Pubescens seeds from me through the Pubescens giveaway. I figured it would be fun to see everyone's progress, plus have a general place to share any pics, growing techniques, and general Pubescens knowledge. I wish everyone great success in their gardens this year.

Even if you didn't receive seeds from me, and want to contribute info about your Pubescens plants this year, please feel free to share.

OK, so I learned something on this post.  I tried to make this post over 20 times and I tried 2 different browsers, rebooting, logging off and on, typing, pasting, etc.  Know what it came down to?  The site will not let me post the word "f-r-o-m" below. Every time I try to post that word the site takes me to the index and refuses my post.  Every post without that word is accepted.  Hope this experience helps somehow.  Actually, I can post with the word "from."  I just can't post with it in the position it is below.  I came back again and edited to test the word "from" in this paragraph and it took, but when I tried to edit again to replace "f-r-o-m" with "from" in the position below it again rejected the post and took me to the index. Weird.

So, here's the post that took forever to make-

It's great to see all the pictures of rocotos posted recently.  Some are even showing up in unexpected places - and often showing excellent taste in their beer selection.

This is my OW Gelbe Riesen "Var," which came f-r-o-m my true GR, but shows some variation in the color and shape of the pods. One of the cool things about both GR’s is they show a more upright/lifted growth profile than many other rocotos. And yeah, I'm well behind in getting this guy cleaned up and potted up into a larger summer home.

Haha.  Hey Stetto - how's it going?  Good to see you're starting to get OW's outside and already have pods setting on the red.  Hopefully the rest of your plants will be outside soon and a warm summer is on the way.

No idea what the posting glitch is, but at least starting to figure out the work-around.  Gotta say through I'm feeling

of your ability to post the word "from" seemingly at will.

Oh, and I did sneak in a mini duck - at the very end.

Any else ever notice how rocotos have a different posture for when the sun is shining and when it isn't (overcast, late evening, etc)? The best way I can describe it is that when the sun is shining, the leaves sort of open up and spread out. When the sun isn't shining, the leaves sort of curl down into a round shape - presumably to preserve the warmth or something similar.

All of my rocotos do this, both Manzano Rojos as well as Montufars. And yes, the tree pollen is EXTREMELY heavy now for many weeks on end already and we haven't had rain for quite a long time. You can see how a rocoto catches pollen :-)

Yep, HEL is heating up. My Rojos have been outside for several weeks already. Leaves perk back up when the sun rises. It's like they have a life of their own or something  :onfire:

My Montufars are doing fine as well.

I have a Pico Mucho that seems to be in bad shape no matter what I do - overnuted, sunburned, overwatered, dropping leaves, drying leaves, etc. Not a happy camper. I finally said screw it and put him in a 2 gallon pot with POBGS - no perlite, no vermiculite, just dirt. I am guessing that he will now make a comeback, but let's see.

My ability to post photos keeps dropping and dropping. The size of the allowed photo is now 1.69MB and gets smaller with every photo I post, so I guess I'll just need to stop posting photos or something. Strange.

I just recently started to read through your glog podz so I'm catching up and getting a feel for your grow - this place can be hard to keep up with.  Happy that your rescue Montufar are getting strong.

I think most people either migrate to third-party hosting of pictures or get an extreme membership to avoid limitations on storing pictures through a basic THP account.  Maybe people will offer suggestions as to what third-party solution works best.

Mine are starting to bloom including the branch i lost. I stuck it in a small container with rain water and a tiny bit of Happy Frog for the kelp meal in it. The Oro and my smaller mini red seem to really be enjoying the weather. My best mini looks ok but a tiny bit droopy in the exact same potting mix and fabric pot. Its pot might be getting a little warmer than the other one but i thought it felt fine a few minutes ago.

We are still getting some really good night vs day temp swings. Nothing cold but a solid 15F or more difference. Forecast says a few nights this coming week will be on the cooler side also.
