Devv-2018-Loving life in the dirt

Here we go again! ;)

This year will be a mix of in the dirt and container growing. Mostly in the dirt. I have some OW's going, 5 are cut back, 6 are pubes that still spend time outdoors as the weather allows. I have pH issues in the dirt, working on that, and hoping for some better results this season. One thing the wife and I decided is to NOT grow into the fall again. I was pulling plants the same weekend I started my seeds. I'm using 4 2 bulb T8's with 6,500K bulbs, and 1 4 bulb T5 with I believe 6,500K bulbs.

So here's the list:

Proof the soil amendments are working   See Stickman's glog for the process; he enlightened me just in time ;)

A few early pulls. LB scanned the garden for anything that she could pick.

Wind beaten Scotchbrain setting pods! So far this and the P. Dreadie are my go to pods. This latest windy assed cold front, I moved them into a location where they didn't get the crap beat out of them.
I lost a P. Dreadie this week, it was snapped off at dirt level. I'm guessing the dogs chased a squirrel up the bench they sit on.

Some color coming on? Aji Limo Rojo

Brainstrain Reaper Seeds from Chuck, getting really nasty looking!

Here's a pod from the "white" looking more PDN-ish ;)

BBM, looking like it's going to color here. Seeds from Chuck. Where are you this season Chuck? We always live for your grow!

Waiting a bit longer for this Big Jim to fatten up. Trying to keep the pod from bottom rotting....

Absolutely amazing results, Scott! Holy moly, they're big! BBM are looking spot-on! Great looking PDN x Bonda plants. I think I saw that you started a Pimenta de Neyde this year. How is that one doing? Awesome job!

Thanks Adam!

Yes, I have a PDN going. It's rather tall and has some pods. I just never seem to get a post in with everything. I shared one with my son who is thrilled with the plants vigor.

Scott,

All looks amazing!! Love the 1 month comparison shots. I’m gonna work the soil tomorrow in preparation for plant out which won’t be for another few weeks.. the weather is ridiculous here - 70s the past two days and then today in the 40s. Idk what’s going on.

Really excited for your Big Jims - I’m so curious to see how they come out/taste! Cook any chile rellenos with those poblanos?

Also how’s the rainwater tank working out?

Thanks Frankie!

Yes! We use the Pobs and the Big Jim's (hatch peppers) to make the Chile Relleno's. Here's the recipe: http://www.devtex.net/recipe.html a few others in there too :shh:

Been using the rainwater tank, the pressure is good. So far about 200-250 gallons used out of 900. We're short on rain this spring as usual. I'm glad I made the decision to get it! I always have he well water as a last choice.

Scott you must be down by Houston or something! I think that's where zone 9 starts. Anyway, you gotta get some more mater pics up in here bud!!!!

Actually a bit South of Houston. I'm 35 miles Southwest of San Antonio; on the fringe of where it starts to get desert-like. I lived in the Houston area; liking it here much better. The humidity is way lower.

I'll get the mater pics up soon, plenty have been setting ;)

You have peppers.. like, actual peppers, on plants... We still have ... frost. :(

I was getting some equipment ready at the farm today and it was BITING cold. Wind was gusting 40+ mph and it was in the lower 30's this morning. Nasty, nasty, NASTY.

I might as well just build more buildings and grow everything indoors. I don't think winter is ever going to end up here!

Plants look very healthy, man. Those are doing fantastic. Love the 1 month comparison shots!

Those Aji Limo pods will initially turn a very dark purple, then go through a bunch of color changes to finally end up turning a dark red. It is possible for them to end up as yellow for the final color, but that is pretty rare, based on my experience. The only person I know that happened to is Tcten. Aji Limo sold commercially in Peru is primarily red, but a bag bought at an international market imported from Peru, will usually have a few yellow pods in it.

Dale, Mine were starting out the purple, but out of 3 plants only one wound up red. The seeds were stowaways with a pack of Peruvian-sourced Aji Amarillo seed from PaulG. These were the most popular peppers out of my garden to my friends and family, They were excellent, the powder continues to be!

Scott, so impressive! Looks like you finally cloned my black-muck primordial ooze!!

Yeah, I remember now. You are 300 miles south of me. I'd probably like that lower humidity too!
Looking forward to the maters bud!

Can't beat the low humidity ;)  But I do miss the rain. The garden has been rained on just once during a three day rain event just before Easter, and that was after 3-4 weeks since the last time. May always scares me as it's the storm month down here. Hoping we don't see any crazy weather. It's been a crazy week down here. I'll get some pics up tomorrow or Sunday for sure! Lots of maters on the vine!
