Devv-2018-Loving life in the dirt

Here we go again! ;)

This year will be a mix of in the dirt and container growing. Mostly in the dirt. I have some OW's going, 5 are cut back, 6 are pubes that still spend time outdoors as the weather allows. I have pH issues in the dirt, working on that, and hoping for some better results this season. One thing the wife and I decided is to NOT grow into the fall again. I was pulling plants the same weekend I started my seeds. I'm using 4 2 bulb T8's with 6,500K bulbs, and 1 4 bulb T5 with I believe 6,500K bulbs.

Hey Scott... anything new going on down your way? Things are finally beginning to really kick in here now that we've gotten some decent rain.

     Cheers!

Hey Rick!

Just got back from Myrtle Beach last night. We drove this time, we could only do a 9 day turn around. Was more relaxing and we saved $500.00. I haven't driven to the East since 1986 when we moved to Va. for a short while. The people on the road are a bit more manic then I remember. We took LB's Hemi Charger, a great road car. 375 ponies and it got 29.9 MPG on the way there!

The plants are still hanging in there. I ran the Rainbird system via the wobblers 90 minutes a day. The only plant I lost was on the way out before we left. We had a brother-sister pair watch the place. They did well keeping things in order.

Here's a few pics:

While gone the grape vines went nuts, while trimming them back I stumbled across this Checkered Garter snake. We have lots of them around here. glad we don't see the same amount of rattlers.

The Growdown plant made it! That's a 100 gallon bag. We had a lot of weeds after 9 days plus of sprinkler watering.

We put everything that we could carry in the garden, an overall shot. Of course I still have quite a few pepper plants ;)

LB has 5 Pineapples that have fruited this season. I think the heat is holding the size back some. It's been around 100° for 4-6 weeks now.

Did I start all that clone discussion? They should just clone me, so I can send the clone to work. And I can stay home :shh:

We just missed you in Myrtle.  We were there 16-20.  We always fly - long car ride aren't kind to me anymore.  But then, plane seats aren't so pleasant either.

The pineapple plants are cool.

...and BTW, the Aji Oro is setting the most fruit among my pube search.  The largest pods are olive sized and the plant is loaded with blossoms and many small pods   Not the earliest nor the largest at present but promising.

I now just need to see which, if any, end up ripening in my growing season.  I suspect I my be starting the pubescens seed much earlier, although I don't know how much that really helps.  You just have to have the appropriate night temps up here before the plants really take off and grow well.

The largest C. pubescens pods I have are about walnut size.  there are two on my Marlene, but I am pretty certain they started before the plant hit the dirt.

We hit the road on the 20th, took our time and got there Sunday. We're done with flying; 3 trips a year to see family (forever) has us burned out on that routine. Stayed at Mom's, in Murrells Inlet for 2 days; she has a house on the second road off the beach. Came in from the south on 17, hit the first bar on the right for a well deserved cold one, I could have stayed longer, wanted too! Mom's just 300 yards from the ocean. She has a brand new house there. Then stayed at Dad's in Myrtle Beach and drove home. Never even went in the water; it rained a lot, and we loved the cooler weather for sure!

Maybe next year we can connect ;)

Glad to hear the Oro is doing well!

It's a great producer, even here where it's so hot, I get some decent pods. They are small but tasty!

Did you hit the “Hot Sauce” store in Myrtle Beach?

No, we didn't really have the time to venture out. Just a short vacation as we don't get much time off as far as days in a row. So we spent the time with family.

That and I can't even keep up with the hot sauce we make here...LOL

Gad Scott, what great things you do in that garden of yours!

Welcome home, I sent some cooler temps, enjoy them while you can....

Thanks Eric!

Despite the heat the plants are making it; just 6 more weeks of hell and we start a cool down.

And yes! Thanks, it's been a bit cooler since we got home which is saweet!

few months behind, just getting caught up here. things are looking good over your way Scott, even with the weather. I really like the table full of tomatoes, should keep you stocked up on fresh salsa for a while.

Nice work, take care bud
