Uknow 2018 - The Heat is On!

Hey all!

Just a quick sneak peak. I planned on dirt day being January 1st this year, but it ended up being today (yesterday), January 18th. Still about 2 weeks earlier than my first set last year. As long as I don't have any major setbacks like last season, I should crush it this year! *Knock on wood*

So I finally got the grow box/tent, lights and heat mat set up in my unfinished rec room downstairs of the new house. The room is about 6' x 9'. Had to cut about 4 inches off one side of my table, it's a tight fit, but I didn't want to go lengthwise, lol.

I planted 4 trays of Chinense only so far. Heat mat is set to 83f. I learned my lesson last year with planting Annuum's and baccatum's too early. Not doing that again! I'll wait at least another month before I start them.

I didn't put together my official grow list yet, but you can see most of the varieties in the pics. Mostly the same as last year, I didn't order any new seeds. I'm missing a few varieties though due to not getting any pods from a few that the deer mowed down last season. (I'm looking for Chocolate Bhut, JPGS and a couple others if anyone wants to trade some seeds)

Also, of the 22 plants I tried to overwinter, 10 survived the aphids and neglect from me. Only watered twice since October, oops, haha. 5 I think have some life left in them, and 7 were completely toast. I'll get a list of the survivors tomorrow when I do my grow list.

Wow!  Awesome job thus far.  297 plants and counting.
Thanks! I only have room for about 60 in my tent, but with all the extra varieties gifted to me this season, I'm going to try to keep 100 to 120. I'll find some room at work (3 10'x10' south windows) or window ledges in the house until they go outside...

I could build another grow tent, but it'd be about $300 in materials, plus another $60 per month in electricity. Not really willing to pay $120 per month in electricity to run two tents.

Little bit of everything in this update... also on the PC for this one.

First, I found these peppers at a local grocery store listed as Red Cherry Pepper, is that what they are called or are they actually Rocoto's or something else?

I also bought some new sauces to try out...

R4PZznal.jpg

Melinda's Mango Habanero was really good, barely any heat, burn was gone after about 15 seconds and you can really taste the mango and carrots.

Melinda's Ghost was pretty good also and had a nice bite to it. I saw a reddit post on r/hotsauce about this one, and apparently they have changed the recipe now and Habanero is the 1st ingredient and it's now made in Columbia. The bottle I got is the older recipe with Ghost still as the 1st ingredient and still made in Costa Rica.

Dave's Insanity I knew would taste like crap due to being made with extract, but I wanted to try it just to try it. It is hot, but just a painful hot, not enjoyable at all, and tastes like plastic. Absolute garbage, waste of $6.

Secret Aardvark is my absolute favorite by far, and my new go to sauce!

I moved my overwinters up higher and in front of the window now for them to get some direct south sunlight for couple hours a day. I lost a few more and only have the following 7 remaining, of which, I'm fairly sure at least one more is hitting the dust.

BTR
BrainStrain
BBG7
T. Scorp Butch T.
Reaper
Purple Naga Viper
Aji Pineapple (pretty sure this one's soon to be toast)

Seeds from Jedi and Genetikx are popping! Looks like they didn't get baked!   Counting my chickens a bit before they fully hatch with these, I gently rubbed a bit of soil off to see if some of them germ'd or not, so if I found a hook, I counted it and covered it back up.

The tri-coty BS7 that looked like it was putting out 3 true leaves at a time appears to just be normal now that it's a bit larger, nothing exciting to see here.

Plants look good just monitor you heat and watering.   What soil are you using?
Keeping the ambient temp around 75F in the tent give or take 2 degrees when the lights are on, drops to around 66F at night. Humidity is around 30% on average and up to 50% in the few hours after watering

Starter mix was Purple Cow seed starter from the local hydro shop.

The #1 pots are Pro-Mix Ultimate Organic with 30% perlite added.

Not sure on what mix I'll use in the final pots outside this year. Any suggestions?

They look like annuums but for sure if the seeds are black or dark brown they are rocoto-c. pubescens

Also, I have at least one of everything I sowed from you this year germinated now.

I have an updated list, just need to upload it. I'll do that later tonight.

Hey everyone,

Plants are doing really well so far. I did discover a little bit of Edema on one of my Orange Fatali's, but the rest of the plants are fine. I'll make sure I really wait to water them next time. I've only watered them once since pot up 9 days ago with 3oz of water each. I think I remember my Fatali's being a PITA last year with watering. So, I'll make sure I wait until they are all pretty dry before I water them again. Also going to step up the CNS17 from 7.5ml/gallon of water to 10ml/gallon of water next time I water.

I also found two Aphids on my OW plants again...  :flamethrower:  I haven't seen any in weeks, maybe they were the last two hanging around, they were medium size. Could have just been two babies that snuck through last time, but probably not, lol. Either way, I gave the OW plants a good look over and didn't find anymore.

With my replacement mat from HydroFarm, they sent a sample's of some sort of liquid nute, cant remember the name at the moment, and bottle of miticide, as well as a 10 gallon growbag. Excited to try the growbag this year, many people seem to have had good luck with them.

Anywho, you know what they say...  :pics:

Family portrait... they grow up so fast.

It's growing, but pretty slow compared to the others

Bhut Jolokia - These always seem to have a little bit of wavy leaves, anyone else get that? Originally came from THSC.com last year.

Purple BTR's (possible BTR x Purple Naga Viper) - Starting to green up a bit. Last year, my purple plants all went mostly green once they got out in full sun

CP115 - These threw two different phenos on the same plant last year, not sure if I kept seeds from both. One was long and smooth, the other was bell shaped and smooth... kinda like a Butch T Scorp, with no tail.

I managed to still hit 70% overall even with the few batches of duds this season. More than happy with that rate

Really nice update, Troy -- Your plants are looking great and I'm glad everything I sent is popping for you

Thanks Ryan. I was starting to get worried about the Chocolate Bhut's, but I dug in a bit last night and one of them had germinated. I covered it back up and gave it a bit of water, hopefully it makes it all the way.  I had some last year from THSC and none of them germed.

Well Troy those are some super healthy plants ... your housekeeping is certainly paying dividends and you are getting plenty of loops ... well impressed with you Bonnets

Any one particular variety you are looking forward too
