Uknow 2018 - The Heat is On!

Hey all!

Just a quick sneak peak. I planned on dirt day being January 1st this year, but it ended up being today (yesterday), January 18th. Still about 2 weeks earlier than my first set last year. As long as I don't have any major setbacks like last season, I should crush it this year! *Knock on wood*

So I finally got the grow box/tent, lights and heat mat set up in my unfinished rec room downstairs of the new house. The room is about 6' x 9'. Had to cut about 4 inches off one side of my table, it's a tight fit, but I didn't want to go lengthwise, lol.

I planted 4 trays of Chinense only so far. Heat mat is set to 83f. I learned my lesson last year with planting Annuum's and baccatum's too early. Not doing that again! I'll wait at least another month before I start them.

I didn't put together my official grow list yet, but you can see most of the varieties in the pics. Mostly the same as last year, I didn't order any new seeds. I'm missing a few varieties though due to not getting any pods from a few that the deer mowed down last season. (I'm looking for Chocolate Bhut, JPGS and a couple others if anyone wants to trade some seeds)

Also, of the 22 plants I tried to overwinter, 10 survived the aphids and neglect from me. Only watered twice since October, oops, haha. 5 I think have some life left in them, and 7 were completely toast. I'll get a list of the survivors tomorrow when I do my grow list.

looking good!

I had the same edema as the plants and pots got larger. The dang room, 24x8 was turning into a petri dish from all the plants; mold on the windows..LOL

I guess I need to find a way to ventilate it....mo work ;)

you're killing it, so keep up the good work!
Thanks man! Some plants have it and others don't, as you can see in the pics. Plus it's not crippling edema, they are still growing just fine, so I'm going to just keep on doing my thing.

I'm 98% sure at this point it's a humidity issue and not over-watering. I could run my dehumidifier in that area I guess... What's another $20 per month on the electric bill... Lol

When they get that big they get angry without lots of air movement.
Yeah, I have the 8" fan and two 4" fans in the tent, plus and an oscillating 16" fan blowing on them 24/7 from outside the tent. Pretty sure they are just unpleasable at this point

Hey everyone, yes, I'm still alive! Plants are doing quite well and I didn't lose any of my keepers. I just got the garden cleaned up and brought them outside today. Most will be going into pots or the garden this weekend. I took two 20 gallon totes full of weeds out of the garden by hand today, wasn't very much fun, but at least that's done, just need to give it a quick till and it'll be ready.

The overwinters that survived are starting to grow pretty aggressively now, they were basically just sticks at one point.

One of my CPR "red grenade" plants has fuzzy stems and leaves, so that's interesting.

Some of the new plants have some baby pods that are anywhere from peas size to quarter size, a couple were even ripening inside under my T8 setup. They are obviously early pods and not full size or correct phenos.

I have them on the racks for now to help shade the smaller plants while they harden off. Might have to move them into the shade under my shed at some point for a few days. We'll see how it goes.

Hope everyone's having a good season!

you got them in the ground yet???
I have a few in pots. I was in Philly most of this week for work and it's been raining almost daily since I got home. I think I'm doing all pots this year. Covering the garden in black weed fabric so I don't have to deal with weeds this year.

I put 4 of my 5 overwinters in 15 gallon nursery pots and the other one in a 10 gallon. Hoping they get huge this year.

I only had those four 15 gallon pots, but I have one 20 gallon and a bunch of 10 gallon, 7 gallon and 5 gallon pots. The black ones are 3 gallon.

Quick update with some fresh pics. Lots more work to go yet, but it's coming along. I should have everything I'm keeping into pots this week.

I threw one of my JPGS I to that 10gal fabric pot, we'll see how that does vs the 10gal plastic pots.

Lots of little baby off-pheno pods already on some plants.

CP115 early pod... These are supposed to be chocolate, and they were last year. Last year I had all chocolate pods, but shaped anywhere from long skinny to pods this shape. Red pods this year, so it likely crossed with something last year, but CP115 were released as an unstable variety so who knows, lol.

This is that Purple Reaper plant... It's early yet and pods are all small early pods, so we'll see what it turns out to be later this season, but the pods are not really all that purple starting out. They are ripening to red though.

That's all for now folks. Keep it lit!  :fireball:

Got a few more potted up tonight, mostly Reapers, BrainStrains and Bonnets.

Decided to keep my other CP115 after noticing it had pods on it that are much more the shape of last year's...

So, looking at the Purple Reaper plant again (aka: The Purple Ripper)   I think it may be last years Reaper crossed with the Fidalga Preto I had, just because of how the pods are shaped, and the pods initial dark green/purple coloring, but the Fildaga Preto ripened to a light orange color for me, was supposed to go red, but I let those pods hang at orange for over a month and they never went red. These pods are ripening to red and some do resemble a Reaper a bit.

I think the only other purple plant I had last year was the Purple Naga Viper, which was also right next to the reaper though. Keep in mind, I also had a couple purple BTxR's show up this season, and last years BTxR was next to the same Reaper plant which were both by the Purple Naga Viper and the Fidalga Preto.

It's going to be an interesting season for sure!

So I decided to move some pots and put them in rows of 2, back to back. This will allow more space in between the double rows and also allow the plants to use each other for support. I figure I only need access to one side of each plant.

I got more plants potted up, almost done with that process!

I also watered and fertilized them last night.

My Bhut, seeds saved from my only plant last year. Last years plant also had these funky leaves unless I fertilized them often. This one needs some extra ferts. I noticed my chocolate and peach bhuts from Jedi and Genetikx also have similar leaves though, it must just be a Bhut thing.
