here's another unique aribibi gusano cross for some inspiration

Aribibi Gusano x Pink Tiger 'tigerbibi' from SicilyStrainPepperFarm:

not the healthiest looking plant having just come outdoors a few days prior, from where it sat in a corner trying to get light from two different windows.
But it was by itself and the pods should be isolated as their are no pollinators in the house but me

and now that it is outdoors it should hopefully take off in more production soon.
hopefull that they taste good too as this is my first time growing this cross.

I tried the Sugar Rush Peach pod yesterday! Very tasty, the sweetness is really apparent. Heat is pretty decent, definitely low enough to eat a fresh pod without dying. I can imagine some tasty Sugar Rush jam or something!

Hey people! I've been slacking with my updates, sorry. My forum activity always seems to slow down at this time of the season. I have some pictures to show now. Ripe pods, hooray!

The weather's been great for peppers. Not so much for other stuff though. We're experiencing the worst drought in years. It's unbelievably warm. The peppers love it though. Unfortunately the ones I've planted in the wrong soil don't seem to want to do any better no matter what I try. I don't have the time nor funds to repot them all right now so I'll just have to accept it.

The plants in the ground are doing fantastic though. Better than I anticipated even.

A Brazilian Starfish x Lemon Drop F1 pod

Different type of BS x LD F1 pod. I like this shape.

First ripe BS x LD F1 pod. The taste isn't really that prominent. It's not bad at all, but I hope it improves in later generations. It has some great tasting parents, so... The heat is almost fully located in the placenta, and the pod itself is basically heatless.

Duke Pequin X pod

Duke Pequin X pod cut open. Sonka, the source of the seeds, told me it was probably Frutescens x Annuum, but the smell of this pod reminded me a little of Chinense peppers. Not a smell expert though, take it with a grain of salt.

First Aji Angelo pod

One of the plants I labeled as Lemon Drop might be an accidental cross. My best guess is it's a Lemon Drop x Aji Angelo. The pods have a color that's kind of a mix between both peppers. The plant grows like Lemon Drop but the fruits look more like Aji Angelos. But the flowers start out upright, instead of pendant like they do on Aji Angelo plants. I haven't grown anything else that it could be.

Thanks, karoo! To be honest I haven't tried really them yet. I did try a little nibble of the Brazilian Starfish x Lemon Drop (BS x LD), and it wasn't anything to write home about. I might have to try a whole one to say for sure. I'm afraid to admit I'm a bit of a pussy when it comes to eating fresh peppers. It's always a struggle; hiccups, burping, teary eyes etc. etc. My previous experiences have deterred me from eating them fresh. Although I did enjoy eating a fresh Sugar Rush Peach recently.

By the way, funny thing: The BS x LD isn't spicy at all, except for the placenta. The flesh is BS heat, and the placenta is LD heat. I really hope the flavour improves because both the parents are delicious.

Another accidental cross. This is supposed to be a Cheiro Roxa. Still has Chinense flowers and leaves so I'm guessing it got crossed with another Chinense. Would have to see in F2 to be sure though.

If it was another Chinense the father could be Bahamian Goat, MOA Scotch Bonnet or a simple orange hab. Those were the only yellow or orange ones I grew that season.

Edit: Because Cheiro Roxa has an intermidiate ripening phase where it has a sort of peachy color, I'm going to leave a few on the plant to see if they ripen beyond orange.

By the way, look at the absolute size of these units. Some of the biggest pods I've ever grown.

Sugar Rush Peach. Almost double the girth of all the other pods.

Aji Angelo. This plant is throwing the fattest Aji Angelos I've seen.

Brazilian Starfish x Lemon Drop F1. Absolutely massive pod.

I could save seeds, but I'm pretty sure it isn't a hereditary trait. A double flower just happens randomly sometimes, just like Siamese twins in humans. I'd very probably just have normal Aji Angelo seeds.

I've been clearing out some plants today. There were a few in quite a rough shape due to the potting mix problems I mentioned earlier. They weren't producing any flowers anymore and all the peppers they did have were ripe. It was a bit crowded in the garden so I can use the space, but it still hurts every time.

It's also the second season in a row that my Pubes don't produce pods. This year I'm chalking it up to the bad potting mix though. Next year!

Hey b3rnd!!! I need to catch up with your glog, but I thought you might be interested in seeing one of my Black Naga x Peri-Peri F2. I understand that some reds look chocolate when ripening. This pod went soft, so I pulled it. But the placenta was still green. So the mystery continues. Will it stay chocolate/Brown?

The flavor is unexplainable. Not bad. Kinda grassy (cilantro came to mind) and the heat feels around Peri-Peri range, maybe a little lower, but it seems to last longer.

Ew, that does look kinda gross. How did that happen? Personally I don't enjoy grassy tastes, but maybe the flavor will improve in later gens?
