The Evil K Cup

I broke down & bought the Darlin' Bride a Keurig at Christmas. No thing, I still got my French Press and access to a friend's roast (he does batches in a small cast iron skillet over the side burner on his outside grill. I gotta get me a small cast iron skillet!), but every once in a while it's just too easy to toss a K Cup into the Blasted Keurig.

I'm looking for a palatable K Cup. She's easy, if it has hazelnut in it, she likes it. So for economic reasons I have a repeating order of Caza Trail that comes @ .38/cup from Prime every month. I've tried it, it has a weird aftertaste that the Darlin' Bride claims she can't taste.

So I'm seeking recommendations for a 'Stettoman Reserve' in a K Cup. I bought a 10-pack of Wallenford that goes down so nice, but those Jamaica Blue Mt. brews are damned pricey. I'm not asking anyone to come out of the closet to admit they drink pod coffee, hell, if they weren't so damm convenient I wouldn't be asking.

But there's only 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (or so) coffee pod outfits out there anymore. I'd like to know who makes that very best, aromatic medium (light would do, the Wallenford is a light roast that a foam formed for in the mug) without doing the homework myself....

...you see, I'm very...uh...lazy. Yes, lazy will do.....

well, I don't have any recommendations for you....sorry!  I checked in because of the thread title, I thought you were injecting K-cups with Pure Evil.    OOPS!

although....a PureEvil K-cup would wake you up right quick!

It's medium roast (like you want) and extra bold, which is simply the amount of coffee in the K-cup. It will be stronger if brewing a small cup but regular when brewing the large cup.

I can't do pod coffee anymore we have them at work and they just don't compare to roasting your own beans and making a pour over or french press/ aero press coffee. And the best part all my coffee grounds go in my soil or in containers. No waste  :)

Picture if you will...

A tent in remote Alaska.

You.

In a sleeping bag.

33 degrees outside at 5am.

And you have to take a piss.

A single burner propane stove.

Pot and water from the river outside.

Boil and toss in coffee of choice.

Turn off and rest for 2 minutes.

Toss in cold water so grounds sink to the bottom.

Pour in cup and enjoy.

Best cup of coffee you will ever have.

I pretty much know when someone is asking for a k cup recommendation they aren't expecting a transcendent coffee experience. Just something worth drinking at least at the quality level or better than 7/11 or McD's. Marley is worth drinking for a quick convenient cup if I don't have time or ambition to go through my Hario pour over ritual. I have never gotten that stale taste you often get with other k cups. Presidents choice west coast dark is stronger flavoured and less expensive. Coffee people black tiger is ok too but have had some staleness issues in the past so I mainly stick to WCD and buffalo soldier now.

I believe the K-Cup is the same as Aldi cups.  I have the Aldi machine and I reuse my pods.  I grind my own beans and fill the Cups.  Comes to about .12-16 cents per cup depending on coffee and special price, which happens every month here in my local supermarket.

I use the inner plastic parts off another cup, a Woolworths in my store or Nespresso comparable I believe, and thats it.

The key is don't extract too much from a pod.  They are not designed for that.  One shot, thats it.  You want a bigger coffee, use two capsules.  If you extract too much from a capsule you will just get bitter coffee.

I have a link to a video that shows how it works repacking them if interested.

Yeah I used to get Black Tiger from CP, also Jet Fuel.

Also Timothy's Parisian Nights.

Those are dark roast tho, and he asked for med.

Starbucks Sumatra is pretty good as well.

That's all I got.

I appreciate all the wonderful responses. I'm now planning a canoe trip to the Kenai..... :drunk:

I've had the Donut shop, but of course it was foo-foo-flavored, so I'll have to hunt down the pure.

I'll look into every suggestion. I actually almost bought a box of Marley when I found the Wallenford. My knuckle dragging palate has an epicurean oasis in it for a robust, aromatic (sinus-opening) oil slick topped Gawd Coffee, but I either can rarely find it or cannot afford it.

I may just pick up those reloadables you can get and just put the damn coffee my buddy roasts for me in them, but I've had better coffee that he buys. It is fookin' good fresh!

SL, I'd have to work my way up to lacing my brew with your extract....But eye-opener it would be!! Has someone done that yet?

weeelll, sort of....

John was working on a large construction project and the guys on his crew were messing around, parking a truck right next to his truck door, putting a large boulder in front of the tire...so he got into the job shack early the next day.  Put some Pure Evil in the brew basket of the coffee maker, and starts the coffee.  First guy comes in and pours a big cup.  Standing outside on the steps, he takes a sip and spits it out...
"Oh You flocker!  You put Pure Evil in my coffee cup!"

He dumps out the coffee, goes back and gets another cup.  By that time another guy was tasting his cup of coffee....

6 or 7 pots later, they never did get the spicy out of the pot.  Finally pitched it and got a new coffee maker.  Disclaimer....I don't think they ever tried to actually WASH the pot with soap and water....

I do know that Pure Evil makes a really nice Bloody Mary, margarita, some put it in beer, rum&coke, milk....but I haven't heard of someone deliberately putting it in their coffee.  Yet.

I'm not into starsucks burnt coffees  :)

my roasts taste way better at half the price.  :)

Way back when my Darlin' Bride & I first signed up for Costco I bought a large bag of Starbucks for the sole reason that it was $6 off. Got it home and found it tasted like it was 6 years past it's due date. Super burnt and bitter. Later on my sister told me that they love to burn their beans...
