Sideshow Gardens Grow Log.

Here's where it all starts at Sideshow Gardens. The seedling room. Heat and humidity controlled. The trays will only spend a couple days here til they get moved outside. Our daytime temps have been wonderful lately but night time temps are still pretty low so they all get brought back inside at night. Quite the chore since the seedling room is upstairs and I currently have way more trays than what is pictured. I've started tomatoes and peppers so far but that accounts for only a quarter of what I'll be growing. Stay tuned for further updates. Thanks for looking!

These giant white habs are doing amazing after their dose of cal mag last Thursday. Thanks to TrentL for all the help! The lesson learned here, use cal mag or a product with enough in it when growing in coir! Even pre-buffered coir apparently.

I'm using the botanicare cal mag plus. It has iron in it too. 2-0-0. Started noticing some upward leaf curl on my older plants and this seems to be doing the trick. Paid a damn premium on this pre buffered coco coir because it was supposed to avoid these problems. Apparently not. Even the guys at the hydro shop told me I should always use cal mag with coir whether it's pre buffered or not. I'll just buy the cheaper brick stuff next time cuz all the higher dollar stuff did for me was give me a false sense of security.

I got Septoria in my garden one year from their tomatoes. Never again, from now on, I'm only growing from seed. That crap started about a week after I planted one of their maters and spread like wildfire from that initial source.

I hear ya there! I started growing from seed after infected plants from a local nursery caused me a 50% plant loss one year.

Hahaha wow Ed! I can only giggle when I think of how busy your daily routine is with all then trays in an out!! Neighbors must think you a mad plant scientist! Get that socal sun and put it to use!!

The neighbors think I grow weed. I'm heavily tattooed and always blasting metal music so I'm not really what most people think of when they think of someone who sells vegetable plants..

You are a hardcore vegetable grower then with a gentle side, as you cant be totally bad if you grow vegetables.

It would really mess with the neighbors heads if he grew a bunch of flowers also.

Myself have no worries about confusing the neighbors any further as i have already infected half of them with my chili growing and dont grow any flowers at the moment either, however my newest thing is to grow various herbs/spices during the summer in the small flower bed i have and i quite like it.

I personally really only like to grow mainly edible plants. Anything else is just a waste of water and nutrients but the flowers help brighten up the backyard a little so it's cool.
 
Edmick,  if you're trying to attract pollinators and room isn't an issue, borage is the ticket for attracting bees.  As a plant will get about 2 feet square, they're good for filling corners.  Bees just LOVE borage!  And, the little blue flowers are good in salads, taste of cucumber.  It's always tucked away in some spots in my community garden plots.  It's tough to beat borage for attracting bees.

Sunflowers and salvia are two good ones, also.  I can't say how they would grow in SoCal, but both Borage and Salvia (not the type with psychoactive properties) reseed each year here in Penna. Zone 7.

Nice.  Thanks for the suggestion. I have been looking to fill more area in the back with more plants. I'll be spending most my time in the backyard come summertime and I want it to look nice by then.
