Bhuter's 2018 Glog

Hello everybody! I'm late again to the adventures of pepper growing. Seeds didn't hit the towel until March 6, so I have some still below, some hooks, and some little plants. Not too much to look at right now but how about a growlist.

BBG Peach Ghost Jami (Mojo)
Monster Apocalisse (Mojo)
Purple Ghost Scorpion (Mojo)

PDN x 7 Pot Caramel F1 (Mine)
PDN x Bonda ma Jacques F6 White & Purple (PaulG)

7 Pot Cinder Caramel F3 (also have F2 clone overwinter)

Lots of crosses, purples, & BBG. I also air layered a clone from the Caramel Cinder F2 last year (with the help of pepper-guru...thanks, Rich) and it's been in stasis until recently. Just starting new growth and already set a pod.

And here's the whole lot. I don't have much room...just what I can fit under a card table.

Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks, Scott! I don't bury the maters extra deep, I don't lay them down, I just break up the roots and plant as you would a pepper. The temp constantly goes up and down. It was just in the 60's for a high, and now it'll be in the 90's. It rains every other day...nothing gets a chance to dry out. So my watering schedule is, "It looks dry enough...and no more rain until later." I water/feed, then later comes soon. Dilutes my ferts. Nothing is consistent, yet.

Maybe the roots are getting too hot under the black weed block?  Then cool off?  If you have any straw, try mulching a couple plants lightly and see if that makes any difference.   As for the ferts, could you try foliar feeding on a day it looks like it won't rain?

Dang how I wish it would rain like that here....

Here I plant maters when the temps don't go below 40° for the most part. Compared to peppers they don't mind the cooler temps. I have to get them going ASAP before the heat stops production. Burying 15" plants and leaving the crowns above the soil results in a killer root system which helps when the heat rolls in..

Time for an update.

Very nice pods there, Andy! I'll bet they're warm. Lol. Looking great!

Now this one I just HAD to post and post first. This is a PeachGum TigerMAMP v3 from Mojo...but I'm gonna call this pod Gene Simmons. Pretty crazy.

Purple Ghost Scorpion also from Mojo. Great looking pheno so far.

This plant is uber-crinkly (like most Scotch Bonnets) and is growing really vigorously. Cappuccino Scotch Bonnet from MikeUSMC.

Peach Bhut WM from WHP. So far this plant is the biggest and doing excellently. I'm kinda bummed because these (so far) appear to be the skinnier version of Peach Bhut. Last year, I grew seeds that I got directly from WM and they were fat, gnarly, big, and delicious. I guess as long as they're peach...who the hell cares?! Lol

Peach Clavo x Pink Tiger from Ford's.

Haskorea from the local nursery. Pretty anxious about this one. Never had an Aleppo, so the Syrian flavor will be new to me.

Ethiopian Brown also from the nursery. I grew this one two years ago and only ended up with two pods off of a giant, healthy plant. I'm trying my luck again this year and so far it's setting a lot better.

Thanks for dropping in!!!

Sugar rush peach at the nursery? I should have went and seen what my local nursery had, but I definitely didn't need any more plants lol. Gene Simon's is looking cool! Your gonna have a harvest in no time

Thank you all very much! I was kinda iffy about the Sugar Rush Peach simply because I got it from the nursery and their plant-trueness is hit or miss. This is a hit! Same with the Reaper. I don't bother starting Reaper seeds anymore because the pheno at the nursery is spot-on. I'll pay five bucks to not have to nurture a plant for months.

Soooooo, I think I found a diagnosis/culprit for my tomatoes growing excellently, then taking a sh!t and wilting at a moments notice.

JUGLONE:
"Walnuts and butternuts produce a compound called juglone that is toxic to many other plants. Tomatoes and other members of the nightshade family are particularly susceptible. They can wilt suddenly when in contact with juglone from the roots, husks or uncomposted leaves of the walnut tree."

Man, it's walnut city here. Between the trees dropping nuts on your head and the damn tree rats burying them through the plastic in the garden...it's probably pretty toxic. Walnut trees are always dropping something. Fresh leaves fall in bunches in spring/summer. So if you have beautiful tomato plants and they suddenly wilt for no reason, look around for walnuts and butternuts. Farewell to in-ground tomatoes...hello constantly watering buckets.

I'm gonna guess this is what happens when you give your plants a liiiiiiiittle too much Foliage Pro & Pro-tekt. Not too much, just too soon/often. A few plants have their top branches folded over, almost looking droopy. But if you try to move them in any way, you'll notice how stiff, sturdy, & stout they are. They won't bend backward...they'll just snap. It's not necessarily a bad thing because the plants are strong and budding like crazy.

Am I correct about what's going on? Because it's only like three plants. The rest are fine. Weird.

It's about time, right Al?! Lol. Yes, thank you! They're starting to finally pile them on.

It seems mine are making a lot of pods much earlier this year than last.

They are looking great [emoji106]. Did you get the rain over the weekend?

Thank you! We sure did get the much needed rain. I don't usually water very often, but it was an every day thing...sometimes twice. Now the rain will dilute some of the possible over-fert I'm experiencing. But things are chugging along, finally.

Here's the first California Reaper from Tyler Farms.

On my Purple Flower Baccatum, I'm getting different flowers. I kinda like this lighter version.
