2018 - What did I get myself into?

Hi All,

After a couple of years of growing peppers in containers on my porch with both low yields and not enough variety, I decided to dive a little deeper into peppery madness!

When I started thinking about this, I was pondering 9 plants in 1 3'x3' grow tent.  Then I started reading....maybe 4 plants in 1 3'x3' tent, they need room to grow.  Then I saw some examples of the monster plants some of you grow...maybe only one plant would fit in that tent...go bigger....so here we are

Initial Varieties:

Serrano Tampequino
Trinidad Scorpion
Red Seven Pot
Ring of Fire
Leutschauer Paprika
Brazilian Starfish
Bhut Jolokia
Chocolate Habanero
Chinese 5 Color

Sucker for Free Shipping:

Chocoloate Bhut Jolokia
Mustard Trinidad Scorpion
Carolina Reaper
Sugar Rush Peach

Wanted Some Greens, so Why Not Add More:

Fatalii
Thai Red Chili
Thai Burapa
Jimmy Nardello Italian
Pepperocini

Initial sprouts from a bunch of varieties - I had much better germination results than I expected, with seeds going into various starters between March 1st and March 10th.

By March 31st some had gotten big enough that I decided to move them into their new homes in 4" rockwool cubes.

4/9/18 - Ring of Fire Cayenne looking good.  I tried those plastic slips for algae management, but have just switched to bottom watering, and I took them off eventually.

4/16/18 - Variety of peppers (and a couple tomatoes) in various containers.  The ones in dirt will be looking for new homes, as this whole operation has officially gone off the rails with about 100 plants in various containers, and hydroponic setups and whatnot.

4/18/18 - Sugar Rush Peach - Why can't you wait until you're big and strong before you start thinking about flowering?!

In other news, anybody know how to rotate how the image is displayed for vertical images posted here?

I can't help with the picture rotation, but your plants are growing fantastically! I think I may grow a Yellow Fatalii next season. Great progress! You're gonna have a killer season!

Plants look great. As far as the pictures go, I noticed if you take the picture with your phone sideways they upload correctly. Or if you take the picture with your phone straight up and down, just crop the picture a little bit and it will upload correctly. Thats how it works for me at least.

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments, I am pretty hopeful that things will continue on a good path. I am getting some leaf drop at the lower levels, but they seem to be being replaced with new branches coming off of the main stem, so I guess it's all good!

The Fatalii is an amazing pepper! I had my first experience with them last year, and was instantly hooked. Great for pepper jellies, and hot sauces!

Thanks for the advice on the crop for image rotation, I will give it a shot next time!

If you already have pics you want to use that need editing, imgur is free and easy.   Just the bother of needing to upload, edit and download.   But that's the way I usually end up doing things!

You could just upload, edit, then put a direct link to the image into image tags. I use mobile for the site mostly, so idk if there's a button, but I just use "[img ]link[/img]" without spaces.

Edit: now that I think about it, when you do it like that I'm pretty sure it shows up in the correct orientation so no editing needed.

Another week, another set of updates!

Thanks Walchit!  It has been a fun project for the spring, and as things get a little closer to summer I am feeling even better about it :)

5/8/18 - All of the peppers that are in 4"x4" rockwool cubes have been going outside for the past week or so getting used to the elements.  Yesterday they got some time in direct sunlight instead of sitting in the shade.  Today they are getting more!
