Vodka... what's your choice.

Good gloomy typical Wa spring weather.

Planning on Cocktails soon...Canadian Ceasars on the menu.

I have had the usuals...Smir, Absolute, Grey G, Skyy, Finn.

Before I go plunk down a few bucks on the old standbys, any recommendations on something else to try?

Not into fufu flavored stuff.

Stolichnaya is my go-to. It's reasonable priced and it tastes the least like anything, IMO.

I never understood the concept behind expensive "craft" vodka. Just ferment some stuff in decent water, distill it and filter it. :eh:

Grey goose if anyone is going to be drinking it straight

Costco Kirkland brand if the fancy grey goose bottle isn't important

i'm cheap AF and drink a lot though    if your mixing drinks and the bottle doesn't matter:  SVEDKA   it taste good and it's cheap

Platinum, distilled 7x. Clean and smooth, with no after taste. I keep a bottle in the freezer and I drink over rocks. I've tried them all, this is by far the best for the buck. This coming from a Ukrainian. Forgot to mention less than $20 US for a half gallon.

I tried it my last bottle and also stored it in the freezer.

I liked the smoothness it has.

Check out Van Hoo vodka from Belgium too.

That used to be my main stay until the lcbo delisted it.

I am not really a vodka guy but ice cold shots of Van Hoo with kolbasa, cheese, and pickles was damn tasty.

Dude!!! You just peaked my interest.

Kolbasa (russian whole rope) cheese and my own goatsweed pickles has me very intrigued.

Will put it down for next go around

Polar ice - Canadian vodka ;)

It as changed a lot since theirs begening a few years ago and its now a good not so expensive vodka , cristal clear , a bit of a citrus taste with some spicyness wich i like a lot. The colder the better for me. :)

Try Jewel of Russia if you can get it in your area.  It's a type 3 (govt designated best tier) Russian vodka made with mineral water and is one of the only true Russian style vodkas you will find as an export.  (Don't you dare put it in a mixed drink, heathen!)  Looks like mineral oil in the bottle.  Has the awesome heavy taste and texture Stolichnaya used to back when it was a real vodka and not mass produced swill.  (Before Stoli stopped using mineral water and started using distilled water and tasteless grains like every other boring vodka on the planet.)  The Jewel Ultra is slightly less heavy and more smooth, but it will be expensive as they only make about 10 to 20,000 bottles of that a year...and each bottle is hand painted + signed.

Get Dan Akyroyd's Crystal Head if you want a really cool bottle to keep around; especially when it comes to the translucent, iridescent metal finish of the aurora bottles.  It's a clean vodka, but nothing special.  Feel free to mix with it.  That nifty skull bottle is obviously a chunk of the cost.  The 1.75 is the size of your head and the aurora version of that is especially cool looking since the process renders each bottle unique.

Get Kai Lychee if you like the taste of lychee.  Don't know if you like the taste of lychee?  Maybe try to find some in a local Asian market first.  It smells like a perfume to many westerners I know and some claim it tastes medicinal to them as a result.  Perhaps an acquired taste, but unbeatable among flavored vodkas if you have a taste for it.  Good mixer as well, for the same reason.  Even a small amount will add a hint of lychee flavor to anything you put it in.

Русский Стандарт (Russian Standard) is not bad for a mass produced vodka, is cheap, and is readily available all over the place.  Their Imperia is generally very smooth and still reasonably cheap.

Always found Grey Goose a waste of money, incidentally (especially if you're only mixing drinks with it).  Much like The MacAllan, it's a quality spirit that got popular among the glam set and promptly jacked its price 10-20 bucks higher than everything else in its tier (thus, never worth buying over anything else in its tier unless attempting to keep up appearances or seeking variety).

Cheers.

If You have a possibility, try Koskenkorva - it's Finnish and has good taste and nice story behind it. From Russia we recommend Beluga. And from our Estonian produce if You get Your hand on it, try Moe Pipra Viin (it is Chilli Vodka) or Moe Mahe.

Russian Standard or Stolichnaya.
They're very similar and a very similar price so whichever one's on offer is the one I'll get. Nice butterscotch/vannilla notes to them from the wheat but they're very mild and the real appeal is more their comparative lack of flavour.
The cheap crap tastes quite strongly of nail varnish remover to me and, IMO at least, that includes Smirnoff.
