Pod growth and ripening question s

I've got 2 questions so bare with me,

One of my plants has set at least 50 or so pods and they are growing very very slowly. Is there anything I can do to increase their size quickly?

Secondly, another plant has been growing maybe 2 or 3 pods, pretty rapidly. Is there any way I can speed up ripening without killing the plant or having it stop producing more pods? I leave in about 30 days and would love to taste at least 1 fresh pepper this year..

I am quite confident that If they're chronologically at different maturity levels, you can remove some of the younger ones so the plant can direct its energy at the ones it needs/you need most to produce seed/pods that it can accomplish in a given time frame. I draw this from my tomato plants.

The size and growing conditions of a plant generally influence how large a pod will be. At the peak of spring leading into early summer is when my plants grow the largest pods, when conditions are perfect with the right moisture and sunlight without killer heat.

Just like the size of the pod, they will ripen faster if the plant is in the optimum conditions. Generally pods will stall if growing conditions are overly cold or there isn't much sunlight for a period of days. For example, Red pods will not turn red when conditions are hovering around 5*C. They will stay orange and very slowly if never turn quite red if the pods experience cold conditions as they are ripening.

If you have a plant that starts to ripen pods you should pick the pods as they ripen rather than letting a large number of them ripen at a time. This encourages a plant to start ripening the other pods that it has set instead of focusing on the one fruit.

So really the best thing you can do is treat them nicely and let them produce.

You definitely have to be patient sometimes. I'd focus on growing the smaller ones up and consider any fruit this early as bonus.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I just really wanted to taste a pod before I'm gone.

I put all my plants outside and within a month I'll be leaving for 4 months..
