[June11] What are you working on this week?

2 weeks ago, I finished building planter beds from old pallets.  Last week, I filled them with the mix from all of my containers.  This week, I've mulched them all, and prepped them for plant out.  I've also finished the last of my seed starts, with the exception of 7 pot Madballz.

FINALLY, get to set up the "cage garden,"at the house.

Now that six 100' tulip poplars are cleared out of the front yard, there's sun to grow inside a protected (from critters) area along the side of the house!

Cage parts purchased here:  http://www.memphisnet.net/product/996/golf-cages-money-saving, along with a few extra parts that close off the open end and create a closeable entrance, and 3/4" EMT conduit at Home Depot..  Micromesh, hardware cloth and bird netting to be installed.  Fifteen gallon grow bags to start with.  If I'm successful, next year I'll add onto the cage frame and build raised beds, too!

Start some Siam Queen basil. I start it later so i have some for later in the season. Lime basil is already going.

Today is market day. Im out of Japanese green tea and local honey. They were out of my sencha and matcha blend last time so i had to suffer with Chinese grown. :D

Finish up my battle with the Virginia Creeper. Bayer Brush Killer Plus (8.8% Triclopyr), looks like worked. Hose it down once more and it should be fine. There WAS a small amount of poison oak and poison ivy there too. I need that area ready for sod next year and our local laws wont allow a controlled burn until later in the fall.

Ass up a quick "anti squirrel cage" for my maters. My Marzinera has some small ones on it and the damn tree rats haven't found them yet.

Some kind of pork or chicken stirfry with LaoGanMa black bean chili oil. Probably with bok choy, Chinese celery and pickled mustard greens.

Cut our first garlic scape yesterday - will have a fridge full soon enough.  Asparagus about done.  Radishes, lettuces, carrots, spinach going strong.  Beans coming on, tomatoes really starting to take off.

Have some decisions to make on what direction I want to go over the next few months.  I can buy one of three businesses or gather investors and open up something entirely new.  Haven't decided which option I'll go with, but the next year is going to be an adventure.  :)
