Your first super hot stories

My first super hot was a trinidad scorpion, grown by me from seed that a generous THP member sent to me.

It was late August and I was walking the gardens after a long day at work (a habit I still do that calms and grounds me).  When I got to the pepper bed I saw the scorpion plant had several pods that were close to ripe, and then near the back of the plant I spied a perfectly ripe red pod.  It was smaller than the others, a little bigger than a quarter perhaps.

I thought to myself "it's a little one, how bad could it be?" as I picked the pepper.  It was warm from the sun, with a perfect little tail.  And I ate the whole thing.  I remember thinking it was a bit sweet at first and then as I swallowed the heat started to hit.  About a minute later my whole mouth and tongue was on fire.  Five minutes after that the heat was still building and I began to wonder just what the hell I'd done to myself as I paced about the back yard huffing and blowing.  It occurred to me that I probably looked pretty odd to my neighbors so I went inside.

About 5 minutes after that I was half sitting, half lying down in the kitchen eating sour cream out of the container with a big spoon.  Tears streaming down my face, ears burning, my whole mouth/tongue/throat lit up like a christmas tree.  The family thought it was very funny, and I clearly remembered laughing at youtube vids of people who ate supers and freaked out - only now it was me.

It took about another 30-40 minutes before I was feeling like myself again, and the flood of endorphins was enormous.  I don't eat whole supers any longer but I will slice & dice them into dishes and use them often in hot sauces and powder blends.

I grew up on tabasco, oblivious to anything else out there.
Started eating Hawaiian chili peppers (type of bird pepper) as a teenager - still clueless
Started hearing rumors of hotter peppers and one day someone left a handful of orange habanero's at our dispatchers desk.
I waited over a week for someone to do something with them and when the following friday came I snagged them.
They were already squishy by then so I just broke them open and harvested the seeds - 1st introduction to Hunan Hand!!
I dried and germinated the seeds, got 12 good starts. Raised them in 3 gallon pots and when I finally had fruit I ate my first one.

I gagged and choked, got teary eyed and my ears started ringing, hiccups and sneezes made it burn even more.
Then the endorphins kicked in and made it all worthwhile. Painful heat only lasted a couple minutes and the tolerable burn took about 1/2 hour to fully disappear.

Hook, line, and sinker right there. Not long after I discovered THP and realized I was not alone.
I stopped looking for the hottest peppers and now concentrate on growing the tastiest hot peppers.
I still don't do whole peppers anymore and rarely do fresh peppers. My thing now is fermented and pickled peppers both of which get turned into sauce more often than not.

I grew up with a love for spicy food of all kinds, the hotter the better. First superhot I had was a Ghost pepper Indian curry dish, that was more of a novelty at the time. I have hade 7-Pots, Moruga Scorps, Reapers and other superhots in sauces or spices and slivers of them raw but dont plan on eating whole ones anytime soon.

I didn't eat my first superhots. I bought dried Ghosts for a friend (didn't ask why he wanted them) but they arrived during summer break and so I had to hold on to them for the better part of the month.
Every day, waking up to that smell was just wonderful. That's where my love of extreme spice came from. That and the appearance of a local sauce shop where I could taste the pepper in onion relish.

It wasn't my first taste of a superhot and certainly wasn't a superhot, but the first *ouch* experience I had was with a Peach Fatalii that I got from Judy in 2014. "I've had pieces of superhots, so I'm ready for this." I cut it in half and ate half. Luckily, I was in the kitchen. It started in my throat and just continued there for a while...getting worse. Ultimately, it felt like somebody sliced off my uvula and was welding it back on. Whew! It was intense. Milk! Right now! It wasn't instant relief, but a slow "un-build"...taper down. Man, my entire head was a puddle on my neck...spilling onto my shoulders.

I still eat raw supers every year. That's the way I like them best: raw, fresh, cut in half, deseeded, and I'll eat half.

I don't remember my first experience with a Fatalii being that bad but I do remember cursing the seller who told me that they rated the same as Habs.
I ate a third and suffered a good deal.
At that point (and this time every year) my tolerance is nil. Jals make my nose run and tongue burn. I'm a big weenie. ‍♂️ I still use that experience as a basis for comparison.

My first Reaper, I took with ease. The heat was intense but I handled it more than the people I saw eat it on YouTube. Of course I ate that after having dinner.

Fast forward to the next pepper season and I get a box of labeled samplers. I take out a big red Moruga Scorpion and eat it. My throat was insanely lit up and so was my entire mouth and lips. My stomach almost immediately started hurting because.... MY STOMACH WAS ALMOST EMPTY! I say almost because I had drank a pot of coffee beforehand.

I was down for the count for several hours. I felt even worse after attempting to sleep it off. That said, I still love to eat fresh pods of all heat levels.

I am not sure what my first Superhot experience was but I remember eating a yellow CARDI scorpion and even though that's sub super for sure, it kicked the piss out of me. I wanted to eat Supers mostly to challenge myself but dang, chinense pods just taste so damned good... And the low heat ones just don't offer the same experience.

To be honest, my early experiences with Orange Habs and Scotch Bonnets were so brutal, I never thought for one second I'd be eating Sevens and stuff. But here I am. The chinense aftertaste that some ppl despise so much, that's what I've been chasing ever since the first time I tried it and it kicked my azz....

Speaking of flavor: The thing I chase (this is gonna sound gross) is the flavor of a burp from a floral pod. I hated floral pods in the beginning. Still not a huge fan, but I love that burp.

My first super experience was nothing crazy. Ate half a ghost pepper, ran around sweating and hating myself getting the oil all over my body and craving death during my hot shower after. Though, I once ate half of a reaper right at the beginning of a three hour bus ride. I had no drink and neither did anyone else who was awake. I handled the burn just fine; it was the stomach pain that got me. I tried stretching out, staying still, etc., but in the end I went to the back of the (charter) bus to the bathroom and threw enough up in the trash can to survive. That was not a fun three hours. Oh yeah, and I'd destroyed my phone earlier in the day so I just had stomach pain and the night sky to entertain me.

I've only thrown up anything spicy once after a really hot meal and it was because I was too drunk.

Any other time I've felt the urge to puke, I've concentrated and forced the feeling away. The burn isn't pleasant when it includes the taste of stomach acid.

I just did it to try to stop the pain in my stomach. The mouth burn had long subsided, but the stomach pain just got exponentially worse.

I remember back in 2013-14 eathing my first hab and it ruined me with cramps, puking sensation but held it in, burning mouth, tongue, lips, throat etc.......

Then I discovered the Red Savina and this forum. I ate one of them and it was much worse than the hab. I had this macho thing going at the time along with my brother who always could tolerate more heat than me. So next we tried a butch t which ruined both of us then like gluttons for punishment we next tried a moruga. That caused severe cramps, pain beyond the others but we survived.

Last but not least we both ate a Reaper. I handled it better than my brother who ended up puking, stomach pains all night and couldn't sleep. I damaged me worse than all the other peppers but I did it without puking which in my mind was a victory.

One thing I learned from all that macho/ego eating supers. That I will never eat them again as the pain is way to intense and that I like flavor over heat now 24/7. Every once in a while I will have some super hot sauce but even that is rare these days. I hover around the scotch bonnets as the top of my heat/flavor level now but still don't eat them by themselves and always have it with my food in smaller pieces or in salsa's.

It's a comparative thing. If you have a more intense experience, the lesser ones aren't as big of a bother. That's why I'm glad my crazy hot experience began with Reaper and I've had the chocolate bhutlah. Thanks to that, a fresh Ghost pepper is no big deal. If I had just steadily climbed the scoville scale, it's hard to say what I'd think.

Now you know why I have no story to tell. While I'm not a wimp I have no aspirations to being a puked out macho man.

Reading this, I feel very blessed to have some bulletproof guts.  I´ve never puked from eating chiles; never experienced cramps.  Heck, i don´t even get day-after ringburn unless i´ve eaten something truly potent-- eg Red Brainstrain, 7SR, Scorpions, Jonah, whatever...  like, stuff that´s supposed to be in the >1.5million SHU range. (And even then, ringburn ain´t likely, depending on what else I ate...) The flipside is, I´m a real crybaby. I tear up and writhe in agony and act a fool if I eat anything significantly hotter than a hab.  I mean, that doesn´t stop me; i still eat stuff like that anyway.  It´s just an embarrassing spectacle when I do.
