The Paleo diet just died

Say what you want about that diet...  But I was a lean mean machine when I did it.  My strength to weight ratio was as high as it's ever been, and I felt amazing.  Last time in my life that I could do set(S) of 30 pull-ups.

I have no doubt that bread is poison.  But I still indulge.  Occasionally.  Sometimes. OK,fuck it, I eat bread.  And goddamnit, I love beer, too! :D
 
They say they were wrong, bread now predates agriculture by 4000 years. And with that knowledge I contend, just because they haven't found evidence of agriculture that predates the Neolithic era doesn't mean it wasn't happening earlier. Plenty of the social studies and world history they taught me public school as a child has since been proven wrong.

That statement just does not float where I work every day.
Low income people that do not supplement a healthy diet with a bit of bread , they live on bread and sugary drinks , with horrific health problems.

Yes, and even worse is that once you reprogram your metabolism, it's very unforgiving when you switch off. Leaving that diet can cause weight gain with vengeance...
 
That white "Sugar" stuff is one of the worst poisons out their. I recall a long time ago they found that people with diabetics that cut out sugar reverted, 80% I think it was that no longer had dietetics, problem is sugar is in most things, the industry cant keep up with the demand.

That is a bit oversimplified.  I was already in phenomenal shape when I started Paleo, and was well ahead of the average American, in terms of diet knowledge.  I had a specific reason for doing it.  I wasn't "on a diet".  
 
When I was a kid, I was a competitive swimmer.  It used to be believed - and still is, by the ignorant - that if you exercise, you can eat whatever you want.  It was nothing for me and my bros to eat 8000 calories in a day.  We were out of the pool, eating.  With mouths still stuffed, back into the pool for the next heat.  Out of the pool, pound a bottle of Gatorade in a single gulp.  Go to a meet with a 48 Qt cooler full of food, take it home empty.
 
That sounds all fine and good... until I got my bloodwork done.  In 8th grade, I had the cholesterol levels of a middle-aged morbidly obese person.  And I was thin as a rail, training like a thoroughbred.
 
I've been through many different ways of eating since then.  Not trying to be gorgeous.  Just always looking for what makes my body happy.  Food is medicine.  Food is life.  Sometimes, I poison myself just a little. (Like when I went out for a burger at midnight last night, and ordered a double Hendrick's gin, muddled with lime)  But for the most part, I only put good stuff in.  If there's some science behind a 'diet' that fits my goals, I'm probably gonna at least educate myself, if not try it.  I've got numerous things to fall back on, if it doesn't work. :D

That's because it's one of the most concentrated forms of high glycemic sugars, with ZERO nutritional value.  It's how you'd want to buy your cocaine, if you were a coke head.

Eating sugary foods makes people hungry and tired, and causes them to gain weight. When you eat sugar, your blood sugar spikes, insulin is released, then blood sugar drops, and you crave it again and again. When your blood sugar drops, your body sees it as a state of emergency, causing you to crave food as a way to fix the situation. Sugar is the fastest way to do that. That is why when you eat sugar, you crave it more – similar to how a drug addict craves his drug.

In the 1970s, a mathematician by the name of Howard Moskowitz discovered that the perfect combination of sugar, salt, and fat would optimize the human brain’s pleasure experience. He coined it the “bliss point.”
Fast-forward a few decades, and we now know that triggering the bliss point not only increases sensory experiences like taste and texture, but also activates an area deep in the brain, called the nucleus accumbens, which is associated with motivation and pleasure.
The nucleus accumbens is the same part of the brain that is activated by certain drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamines, nicotine, and morphine! In other words, the job of food designers is to create foods that hook your brain, just like addictive drugs.
Now new research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine backs that up by demonstrating that sugar has a similar effect on the brain to powerful illegal drugs and that it can be as addictive as cocaine! Furthermore, they say, cutting out sugar can cause cravings, binges, and withdrawal symptoms – like a drug addict going cold turkey.
But here is the good news: Once you let go of sugar, your cravings WILL subside.
Within a short time (usually several days) of eliminating sugar, many amazing things begin to happen in your body. Your hormones begin to regulate. Your hunger/satiation signals normalize. You begin to enjoy the taste of real (unprocessed) foods. Fruit tastes sweeter and vegetables more flavorful.
And by eliminating sugar, which contributes to lack of focus and inattention, you have a greater ability to focus on making the healthiest eating choices.
 
 
I'm with you on that, solid7. I don't like the phrase "diet and exercise" because it gets people thinking it's 50/50 rather than....oh say.. 70/30.
 
Eat healthy foods/macros in the right amounts for your current lean mass and goals, lift heavy shit, do cardio, hydrate, put down the phone at night and go to freaking bed.  If you haven't even plateaued a lift and think you need to get more specific than that to make progress (gain or loss), your only problem is psychological.
