7 Pots & Scotch Bonnets (2018- )

I removed a significant amount of leaves (some very big) from the lower half of plant stalks.
The upper canopy has filled out to absorb most of the light.

I now have 14 plants outside. Yesterday it rained for 24 hours.
I have 14 of my better plants in 1 gal smart pots. To be repotted soon...
4 plants in superoots 5 gal airpots that were potted up from 48oz cups.
4 still in cups. 7 airpots remaining. 5 gal nursery pots for the rest.
Today, I'll try to get burpee organic potting mix (coco based). Maybe pick up worm castings too.

All 14 plants that were in 1 gal pots are now potted up to 5 gal nursery pots. Also, 8 airpots transitioned from 48 oz cups.
The new media is .12-.12-.12 and I top dressed with worm castings that have values listed for nitrogen calcium and iron.

The previous potting mix had a large ratio of added perlite. There is still some perlite in the rootball, but much of it shook loose while repotting. Some of this unrooted media was mixed with coco to backfill the sides, but mostly it was used straight as a dry top layer.
I haven't used the new soil before. It felt quite damp out of the bag. So, I didn't water in. The reading material on the back of the bag actually mentions doing just that. The plants have well-formed root balls from gradual increases in pot size. They looked dense and fibrous, and the media they were in was relatively dry. For now, I'm guessing they will stay wet enough by wicking moisture from the coco. I'm glad I won't need to water them as often.

The only plant with sub-par roots was the Scotch brains (7pot pheno). I would have moved it outside, but it's the only one of its type. It's not lagging above ground.
Anyway, I started germinating the rest of those seeds. Also, on the way are sb cappuccino, allen boatman, beth boyd, safi red, scotch brains (op and iso), bbg7 chocolate, peach bhut, boc, and maybe guest starring some others.

That's a real murderers' row you have getting ready to step it up with all that room and good soil.  Really looking forward to where this is headed.

How are you finding the growth of the sb cappuccino?  I don't believe I've every seen a mature plant of it, but the pods/color I've seen in pics look outstanding.
Those I'll be starting Monday. Plan is to go straight into 50 cells in a 1020 tray with the coco unamended.
From what I've seen, I agree. They do look nice. Reddish-brown and shiny smooth.
These are all firsts for me. The BOCs in your grow know have been testy. Speaking of which...

No sooner did you step them up and you're already reloaded for the next round!  Some real MVP's in that list.  That Scotch Brain (bumpy bonnet style) is doing very well for me.  I had slow germination on the Alan Boatman, but happy with it once it did.  Curious to see how yours germinates.

Good luck for fast hooks!

Thanks 'Dog! Definitely looking forward to those two. All of them, really.
They're soaking in RO water 24 hours. I added a pinch of kelp powder which is actually a compost tea activator and the dust from a brew bag (extremely dilute).
The only info I've found on Nagabon x Yellow Primo is a pod test video, and CDNmatt has it on his glog list but not growing it rn.

Yeah, there's a lot of cool ones in there certainly not just those two. Don't know about the Nagabon x Yellow Primo except I'm betting it's not a "snacking" pepper - has it been stabilized?

I more and more focus on getting seedlings off to a good healthy start, but continue to to work on optimizing what seeds should be soaked in (a lot of people think soaking is no benefit for young healthy seeds), what should be in the sowing medium, and what should be introduced once the seedling has matured a bit with 1 or more sets of true leaves.  Big fan of kelp though and will be interested to hear your thoughts on what impact it and the diluted ACT might have.

Mhm I would venture a guess that it's not stable. Should be interesting.

I'm doing a couple things differently this time. 1) No added perlite. Just very small pieces at a low ratio in the coco mix.
2) I decided to soak instead of watering-in, because the media holds a lot of moisture and it's already damp. When i sew I want all of the seeds to contain the water they need (and the weak micronutrient leachate-type solution). This way, I'm not drenching the coco by watering-in (primary concern), and the seeds still get fast absorption without the time it would have taken them (if they had been sewn dry) leaching moisture from the media. If I had sewn dry seeds into the coco without watering, I think they would still have enough moisture to germinate without desiccation, but they would not have the same dormancy breaking signal of imbibition by watering or soaking. Thus they would germinate slowly and without uniformity.

Except for the outdoors getting plant-tone granular with fish&seaweed liquid, everything indoors will be on the AACT. My 5 gal brewer is ready. I still haven't watered those I potted up, and it's not in the foreseeable future.

Cool that you're experimenting with things and good to hear the thought behind your processes. One of the cool things about THP is learning from other people's ideas and methods. Totally agree about avoiding/limiting watering-in and generally trying to keep the media light and fluffy.

Hey, and non-stabilized just means more options to work with in the next gen, right?

Major defoliation, including big leaves, leaves that were pointed inward, and others that were shaded or shading.

MOA: removed a few shoots that I decided were too low on the stalk. Thinned canopy leaves that were pointed inward. 2 shoots on the right were pinched recently. 3 others are budding from the last pinch, 1 on the left is the fastest.

I did much the same with my plants outside and the air pots I have on the shelf under cfl.

Yes, it's a bit extreme. I'm thinking the canopy should fill out again in about two weeks time.
I might move the purple light to direct overhead instead of angled.
At the beginning of March, I'll have them outside. Then they can fill out the lower growth.
