Pepper Species

I understand that there are 5 domesticated species in Capsicum, but some of them are very similar like the peppers in the Annuum complex, I understand that there are definite differences between Annuum and Chinense but what are the differences between Capsicum Annuum and frutesens.

C. frutescens grows more compact than C. annuum. They typically peak at around 4 ft tall and though they only have one flower per node, will produce plenty. The most surefire way to tell is to look at the flower, where it has a greenish corolla similar to a bacatum flower, with pods usually oval and pointed straight up (think birds eye).

Yes, as you noticed there are also Annuum varieties that share some of these characteristics. There are also people that say that Frutescens and Bacatum should be classified as subspecies of annuum.

Frutescense dont seem to be as variable as the other species.

Correct me if Im wrong but Im sure Chinense is in the Anuum complex? Surprisingly enough given the differences

Ghosts/Bhuts are interesting as they are meant to be a Chinense x frutescense originally as far as I know
