Help and advise

Hi all, Im new to the whole chilli growing scene and have a few questions!
I currently have a Basket of fire chilli bush that is doing quite well seeing its my first attempt.
My questions are really about feed, soil and how much to water!

The bush is currently in a 5L pot with some standard compost and its currently fed around around every 3-4 days with Tomarite as it now has fruits. Ive read that a popular choice for potting mix is John Innes No2 so should I remove most of the compost out of the pot and fill it with John Innes No2 or just leave it in peace? Im going to try and overwinter the plant and will be adding new soil to it in spring with some slow release fertiliser so should I just wait? And as for watering how often should I be watering a plant in a 5L pot should I give it a thorough watering and then let it completely dry out before re-watering it?

Ive read that people like to use a general fruit and veg fertiliser whilst the plant is growing but once there flowers developing they switch to tomorite or other similar fertilisers like chilli focus!

Sorry if there has been a post on this subject already but couldnt really find it, so any tips on what to use and do to get the best out of a chilli bush would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks Leo.

Hi Leo and welcome.

I never was much for the metric system so a 5L pot really does not draw a vivid picture in my mind. However, when I started growing hot peppers, I was given some advice that took over 5 years to finally sink in. "Use the biggest container you can".
Next year I will be growing in 15 to 25 gal containers only and in ground. As far as your current plant and media goes, if it is doing good, don't mess with it and make your changes for next year. There is a ton of information to learn and it is easy when starting out to become inundated with it. There is also a plethora of opinions of which, many are good and work. You will find yourself challenged to decide what to use and when to use it.

Best advise I can give right now is dig in and read the growing hot peppers section. then after you have digested a bit of that you can ask more targeted questions about your specific situation.
