Scotch Bonnet list!

Got a response from whitehotpeppers... those are just regular scotch brains photographed late in the evening. Hence the dark orange color...  :oops:
 
Where are y'all ordering seed from? I saw Justin at whitehot mentioned. I saw him and a couple others on a google search, but I only trust y'alls recommendation. Never grown them, but want to next year. I want a yellow and a red. Searching the forum earlier today the below seem to be popular. So I'd like to order these seeds or any others that come highly recommended and are available. TIA

I ordered Beth, Foodarama (which I've seen mentioned those are one in the same) and Safi Red from White Hot last night and already got a shipping conformation this morning. That's pretty dang good.

I may have gotten the last few seeds Justin had of Saragas.  Placed an order with him this morning and he said he had a few seeds that he would include.

You can get a harvest or two if you start them inside a couple months before plant out.

I do that. I start mid March and plant out first week of June. It is done Sept 12-15. 
 
Working backwards it sounds as if I will have to start when? Feb 1st or earlier on these varieties? My grow space isn't big enough to handle plants 2ft tall.

I sow between Christmas and the New Year and place the seedlings once established into a growtent with artificial light. Planting out can be as early as late April early May into the poly tunnel once any frosts have gone. If you have limited space keep the container on the smaller side or farm out varieties to friends and family to “chilli sit”which I find is a good way to keep the variety isolated

+1 to this.  So many of my friends and family have gotten a container plant to "pepper sit" for several weeks while it blossomed and set pods in order to isolate for true seeds!  It's a great way to breed multiple varieties at once without the attendant hassles.
 
Since I've never grown, I've just been saving seeds from pods in SFRBs and hoping I come across someone who'd be willing to grow them out.
 
I don't come out of the frosts until the last weekend of May. The nights arm not warm enough until somewhere around the 10th of June. I'll try to find a chilli sitter but the only people I know that are responsible enough to look after a plant also have cats which like to chew on things. Yeah, it is a sad state of affairs. I guess I will have to engage in trial and error to see which varieties I can bring to maturity in less than a 100 days.

Grow them like any other C.chinense. Don't get caught up with the 120 or 150 day thing. It will come down to how many pods you actually want. A mid-march start will get you quite a few of these by the end of September if nothing serious goes wrong. I think too many people focus on starting earlier rather than improving their techniques.

We are in a similar climate and run into the same issues. I can't imagine having 40 or 50 five month old plants inside. A Chinese should be fruiting by then. It doesn't make sense to start in January,and then retard the plants,better off starting late and have them striding into plant out. Same with planting out. You are better off waiting 1 more week for consistent temps rather than planting in cold temps and setting your plants back 1 month.

Good luck with your bonnets. They are nice looking plants and the pods are tasty.
 
I never actually timed any of my peppers, in terms of actual days from sowing to harvest... But I started some superhots waaaaay late on 2019 and still got fruit before my time was up. I just can't help but be disappointed when all those nice green pods get lost to the frost, especially on plants that never had a chance for a big harvest beforehand.

I also feel like starting in February isn't much harder than starting in March, although tbh a lot of that might be up to the fact that I'm not good with growing inside yet. My seedlings are always way smaller than they oughta be until I get then in the ground, and they don't start putting on descent growth until I start hardening off. I have since nice lights.... I suspect it is more a result of clueless attempts to fertilize.
