Blender question

Howdy all. My blender (el cheapo) is on its last legs.

What are the good options for a new blender for making sauces?

What ^^^ said.

I have a ninja and a blendtec.

Blendtec for the win! But they are a little spendy. The blendtec can make things completely smooth where other blenders just can't get the seeds and pulp completely pulverized.

Plus side of the ninja is you can get a food processor, slice and shred, the smoothie cups...

Different things to consider~~~

I have a Blendtec, but use an old commercial Waring instead because I don't want everything I blend to be smokin' hot.  Unfortunately, the Waring works much better for drinks than peppers.  Are you able to get the heat out of the plastic Blendtec container and, if so, do you mind sharing how?  Or will I have to bite the Bullet and buy a second, dedicated attachment?

I have a separate food processing kitchen and the blendtec is only out in the salsa kitchen. The blendtec is used for all sorts of sauces and such, which I guess means the carafe is probably permanently infused with heat.

Lots of people have shared horror stories of blenders, pots, utensils and things that were used for making sauce and then used back in real life which turns that stuff spicy. Oops!!!

Shoot, hit the post button before done...

Lots of people end up getting separate appliances for use with hot peppers. Coffee grinders for dried chiles are $20,. .. blendtec blenders or ninjas are $250.

What you can do is buy a second carafe from fleabay to use with the same base.

side question -- what about a blender for small batches? like say just a single woozy bottle's worth (150mL / 5 fl oz.) or something?
anyone ever try a batch that small in a normal blendtec jar? doesn't work well in a vitamix.

i've cleaned out vitamix jars by blending hot water and a drop or two of soap, dumping it, and repeating.
sometimes there's still a hint after that, but it goes away pretty quick. i've made a few superhot batches and still use the same jar for smoothies and stuff all the time and can't detect it.

next time i might try:

blend hot water + a bit of oil
add a couple drops of soap to emulsify, blend again, then dump it all out

repeat the above once or twice

then follow up by blending just hot water and soap once or twice

(and of course always finish by blending plain water as many times as it takes to get the soap out)

Thanks for the input both.  If it were glass it would be pulling double duty, but I just don't want to risk it with plastic.  I see the dedicated "spicy" carafe in my future, but the Waring for now.  Just too many gadgets in the kitchen and I'm supposed to be trying to move the opposite direction of getting even more!

And back more directly on the topic of the thread, I'm really happy with the Blentec and think it would be great for the purpose.

When I read this post, it reminded me of the episode of "Good Eats" where Alton Brown talked about why plastic containers get stained.  The reason, he said, is the oils in certain foods are so similar in molecular structure with the petrochemicals in some plastics, they actually exchange molecules under certain conditions, like when heated!

Thats why you dont use plastic for making egg white stiffs (I think its egg whites) were oil destroys the cohesion of the bake.

I use this immersion blender.  It's a horse and can power through 4 - 20 quart batches without issue or overheating.  It's not too expensive and will not retain any heat from the sauce.

Nutribullet Pro 900 works fine for small batches. The Rx 1700watt version if you really need a powerhouse.

I have one of those and I love it. But it’s sucks for small batches IMHO. But I do love it for bigger batches.

I burn up blenders so the last one I bought was like 15 bucks at Wal-Mart and I feel like it works as well or better than the ninja thing I had or the fancy one of my wife's that overheated.
