Bugs.... Had the same problem the last few years. Used Thuricide (bacilllus thuringiensis) this year, no bugs. It's biological warfare on bugs, google it. Getting rid of weeds and keeping the surrounding grass short, and not overwatering helps cut down on bug infestations.
