Straight out of the can/bottle

I know in starting this thread there are some here who could easily be deemed world class cooks/chefs. I have and do follow many with the utmost respect and admiration. I do cook often and share here on occasion. But sometimes, I admittedly eat stuff "straight out of the can, or bottle" as it were.. Can't help it. I confess. I like some stuff "as is" ready to go. Tonight with cold beer, here is my dinner (long day, no time to cook.) I'm a sucker for "spaghetti-o's" cold right out of the can too...

Am I an oddball or does anyone else like stuff "straight out of the can?"

Beans

Pork and Beans are always something I’ll love eating straight out of the can! Baked beans are great too as well as refried…any beans really! Growing up with just my dad for many years, grilled cheese and Pork and Beans was a staple meal and sometimes you’d be just too tired or wanted something quick and beans straight out of the can cold was always available, tasty, and filling.

I also remember eating and much enjoying canned:

Chilli
Chef Boyardee (Spaghetti and meatballs were my favorites for the mouthfeel/texture of it cold. Ravioli and Beefaroni were good too)
Beef stew or other more thick ‘hearty’ soups (potato, etc.) and stews I found quite satisfying

Fruit:
Bartlett pears as is in natural juice or drain and cover with shredded cheddar cheese – ‘pear’s & cheese’. It’s so good! (Especially ate this as a kid! The spoonfulls of cheese at the bottom that have absorbed some of the leftover pear liquid was like ambrosia to any kid who was a cheese fiend!)
Chunk pineapple (natural juice)
Fruit cocktail
Mandarine oranges!!!!

Whole or stewed tomatoes
Potatoes – mostly a texture thing – just fun to eat!
Corn (plain loose corn, baby corn or creamed)
Spinach, collard, or mixed greens
Olives
Sauerkraut

Vienna sausage, deviled ham, ‘potted’ meats (Ate so much of this, especially the Vienna sausages, as a kid for school lunches)
ANY seafood product (sardines, mackerel, anchovies, salmon, tuna, smoked clams/oysters, etc.)

Any kind of Indian dish that comes in a can or jar (or those silver bags they come in whatever they’re called) like Saag or Palak Paneer, Dal Makhani, Chana Masala, etc. These are always better warm, but they are still delicious straight out of the container.

And then there are those things that aren’t in a can or really eating as in a meal or small snack but more so on a whim or craving like the occasional spoonfuls of jelly/jam/marmalade, cream cheese, whipped cream, peanut or other nut butter (everyone’s done or still does this, right?) etc.

Pork and Beans though is the one that first came to mind and which I still eat and I'll probably always do so.

Ikea sells marmalade? I am assuming you have to join the fruit with the sugar in the pan you provide, attach the heat source supplied by others, follow the picture directions for inserting mixture D into jars K......

My go to is saltine crackers, squares of cheese and splashes of hot sauce.

I'm guessing you've never been to Ikea. They have a full-on Swedish food section yes with Swedish fish, lingonberry jams, and a cafe with yes, Swedish meatballs and spaghetti.

First encounter with Ikea was trying to install light fixtures a customer purchased from Ikea.

We have a shop rate for installing light fixtures. After that encounter with the Ikea fixtures about 15 years ago, our proposals now specify the shop rate for light fixtures and installation of Ikea fixtures are $10 an hour more because of all the schtuff that is not included.

Beyond that, I did walk through Ikea in Seattle about 12 years ago....

Not impressed....

And after working on houses where the homeowner supplies IKEA cabinets, tables, beds, younameit.....

Even more not impressed.

Anyway, this is off topic so...

Back to GRUB!!!!

Wow! You added such a "gourmet" spin on it, it almost makes me feel ashamed at the thread title.

I should change it to " Gourmet eats - prize picking pantry delights for awesome meals." Or maybe "Tasty delights on limited time."
