comida portuguesa

there are so many great threads here about all kinds of foods but none specifically about Portuguese food so i wanted to start one. it probably won`t get much traffic but that`s ok. 
 
 
 
Carne de Porco à Alentejana
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
this dish is delicious and only works with live clams. our local farmers market has a vendor who has the clam boat and makes these clams available year-round. first, clean clams under cold running water and a brush to remove any sand on the outside of shells. the pork is lean pork cutlet and cut into small cubes. season pork with paprika and garlic and bayleaf. brown meat with a little olive oil and then add clams and cover and cook until all clams open. potatoes and be cut into cubes or fries and then deep fried. when fries are done dump them right on top of the clams and pork so they soak up some of the salty clam broth. my wife does not like any spice at all so i hit my plate with my cowhorn and jalapeno crushed flake. got to have some good bread to soak up the clam broth with.

Interesting dish! Looks delicious!
 
Actually really looking forward to future additions to this thread. Portuguese chicken is quite popular over here..... im familiar with caldo verde and the bacalao croquettes.... but that is probably the extent of my familiarity of Portuguese food..... it looks very interesting....
 
On a side note the best chorizo ive ever found was made by Portuguese.... a bit of a drive to the deli but may be worth making the trip out there again soon....

i`m also hoping others jump in and post other dishes also. my wife is portuguese and is the main cook in our house. i will post other dishes when she makes them. yeah she makes both the soup and the croquettes. she says the chorizo here in the US is ok but not as good as back home. she does a chicken dish that my favorite and i`ll post it next time she makes it. 
 
Bacalhau a Gomes de Sa
 
this dish is layered in a baking dish with potatoes, hard boiled eggs, caramelized onions, olives and codfish. potatoes and cod are par boiled and then finished in baking pan in the oven.  heat added to my plate after because my wife doesn`t like spicy. diced pickled jalapeno rings and cowhorn red pepper flakes for me!
