Working on a school project, would appreciate your help :D

Hi fellow growers,

I have been growing peppers for several years and I love to make Sambal from the harvest I get every year.
Now I got the oppertunity to combine my hobby and school with an Internet of Things/Tech assignment.

I have chosen to create something to keep track on data I can get from my plants. This is going to be a product with some sensors combined with a small web application.

I'm thinking of data such as:
- Moisture
- Height
- Width
- Temperature
- Light
- PH level of the soil

If I got enough time I would like to add components like an automatic watering system. But first I want to focus on the sensors and the input I can get out of a plant.
The main idea is that growing plants should be for fun and not that the whole system will take over the care taking, just keep track on an individual plant and its history.

Maybe you can give me some great insights in what information I can get from a pepper plant and its environment?

Thanks in advance and keep growing/eating!

Yup lots of Raspberry Pi school projects out their for Plants and hydroponics. Check out  Add A Fruit website and the Raspberry forums/projects. Ive done time laps with the Pi, nice to see the growth speed.

Thank you for your answers, very useful. I found some interesting projects of people who did about the same.

I got another question: We are focussing on future technologies, what do you guys think will be the future of home (pepper) growing?

I compare it to the technology of self-driving cars, very cool they get automated. But still I find it fun to drive. In fact it will be possible to automate your home garden completely in the future if I look at the industry, but I think spending time with the plants is part of the hobby and the fun.

How do you guys think about this?

Hydroponics has become very big with homes, no longer an industrial thing, more and more people doing home hydroponics/Kratky.

To be fair people like me love to code. Automation is an extremely useful aspect of coding.
