Mattys first ever Glog "Into the fire" 2019 season

Hello everyone and thanks for looking at my "Into the Fire" Glog!!
 
So I started my gardening hobby in my early 20's about 16 years ago now, and though I have played around with many types of flowers/vegis  tomato's is what most of my energy was put into. I loved alll the different colors and types that could be grown which really reminds me of all the exciting Chilli variety's that exist today. A couple seasons ago while looking for some info on a particular type of sweet pepper I stumbled onto a few videos of some people eating super hots (Ghost,Reapers ect..).  After looking into it a little more I figured this would be a very interesting thing to grow even just as a novelty since really no one in my area grows much if anything at all.
 
Last Winter I went and bought some seeds from Ebay..one was a mixed bag Ghost/Reaper/Scorpion...another was the Peter Pepper and the third was some type of Thai i believe. Only the Thai ended up growing true to type and the other 2 was a Cayenne and Ornamental. I was pretty disappointed when they did finally start putting out pods. It was around that time I started looking for a group or forum dedicated to Chillis, and luck would have it I found THP and all of you fantastic peoples.
 
Anyways with the boring back story outta the way I really planned ahead for this years grow....I built a 6'Hx6'Lx2'D grow box (not exact mesurments) which has 3 shelves and the middle one able to come out if I wnated to grow larger plants from the bottom tier. I went overkill on seed types making 3 decent size buys, 2 of which were 30+ from Garth at TexasHotPeppers and a smaller one from a fella in Arz.
 
I do not plan to grow all of these as my wife would kill me, but 20 or so might not be so bad.

So would like to see some favorites and suggestions from the fine people here at THP so I can kinda get it down to a much much smaller grow list. Will also get some pics up shortly here of my grow box which still has one more shelf I need to wire up just waiting on a few more strip lights to arrive in the mail, but will still give an idea of what it will all look like when its done.
 
In final: This is a new hobby for me within the hobby I already enjoy...I am going to try some new things (new for me) and even the much earlier starts then normal will be interesting to see how it all comes out at the end.  I look forward to the input from the community and keeping this glog updated as much as I can.

Oh, wow, when i read your list I didn't even realize the Arrowhead was a rocoto.  The pictures in the link wouldn't come up for me so I can't see what exactly it is, but if you haven't grown rocotos before I'd say definitely give one a shot.  Then once you're hooked hit me up and I'd be happy to share some cool varieties with you.
 
BTW - Nice work with the indoor unit.  With that and your seed inventory it's looking like 2019 is shaping up to be a heck of a good pepper year for you!
 
White lightening is a nice looking pod. Well worth adding. As you probably know it’s a pretty plant too. If you have never grown a Rocoto before, then I agree with others, well worth it. They have a totally different flavour profile.

Welp...after doing abit more looking around I am not so sure it is a Rocoto type but thats ok..I also looked into a bunch more of the different Rocoto varieties and will have to try it at some point. I am not so sure I will get in another seed order this year...though I never say never and the more I read other glogs the better chance of this happening.
 
I do look forward to making some close friends and to be able to trade or hand out seed to others. I am still only about 6 months on THP and still hesitant to put my name down when people offer give aways ect. Next few seasons of growing would certainly give the chance to do so.
 
I certainly do appreciate the props on the grow box...it is a step up from the 2 make shift smaller ones I had last winter...one of which I put together in about 20 mins on my porch in Jan..was literally -30C and my hands hurt so bad afterwards. I wish we had the room to make it bigger, the depth of it I mean. 3 ft would of been nice but 4ft certainly ideal. If I ever do get the room it's an easy add on to the exhisting shelf I suppose.
 
Anywyas today the top shelf will be mostly wired up...I was out digging in the shed sorting out seedling pots and getting my trays and domes ready..will likely bring them in today and get it all cleaned. I am going to have stuff started New Years day, i am going to go crazy if I dont.

Jaunitos grow set up was really what led me to using the strip lights and before I knew he was even on this forum I had watched his videos on Youtube. When I did figure out he was on here I bombarded the poor guy with questions and he was more then kind enough to answer them, I really felt bad afterwards. For anyone who has not watched his videos give them a quick look over for sure.
 
It was really hard to decide on what to use with lighting as I already had many blurple bulbs I bought last year but most side by side grow comparisons I watched (which were done using Leafy greens) had better results using more whiter type lights then the straight up blurples and tasted better as well. Now again this wasn't any pepper plants so it is very hard to compare the since leafys are much different then flowering plants so i tried to take alittle from each write up I could find online and make a spectrum that was wide and incorporate as much of that as I could, on a budget to boot. For pepper grows Peter S has some great videosand has some great insight on several lighteing systems and grow techniques.
 
There is no doubt I will see failure...how much so , well that is TBD
 
Nice list but you definitely wanna shorten, I like the recommendations that have been given. Id do the tepin x lemon drop, I could see that being a mouth treat, the infinity was a nice grow and my most prolific fruiter. Im actually looking into growing a chiltepin and maybe doing some funky crosses with it for giggles. Hope your grow goes well and the hooker comment had me

Yeah it is down to the 20 or so listed at post 25...I am hoping that my strength will be in numbers so that if/when problems do arise and I am sure they certainly will, I can fall back on some others.
 
I actually look forward to the Tepin x lemon drop.....I have seen it numerous times in other glogs so the hopes are high on this....Probably add a few extra seeds of these just to increase my odds with it.

So basically I got a whole lotta nothing done the past 2 days.......I had big plans to get all my starter pots cleaned and get the top shelf all strung and wired into the power source. However life gave me a kick to the pills it seems, think I was fighting something off like a head cold maybe...both kids had been sick all week and was only a matter of time before the plague spread to my wife and I.
 
I did get all the strips cut to size and connected those via series I believe it is?? Just need to staple them all up. Anyways tomorrow is a new day and perhaps I may give it a shot tonight and tough it out for a few hours and see what progress I can make. Really there is more rush to get the pots cleaned then the top shelf wired as I will have more then enough room to get a bunch of stuff started...the top is more for later in the winter when I have to start all my other vegis and flowers or if I do need alittle extra room. As mentioned earlier in the glog the bottom shelf is there incase I have to take the middle one out and need more vertical growth room OR use it for a bunch of blurple bulbs and lighting I have.

keep you busy, Matty. More importantly, take
care of you and your honey. The tasks will still
be there when the gripe lets go of you!
 
So New Years eve I finally got my starters all cleaned and sorted...had a bunch more I just shoved back in the shed I likely will not need them this year.

And tonight I got 16 types in to soak..I am still waiting for the second order to arrive from Garth so added a few that were not on the list...like as if it wasn't gonna happen anyways right. so 8 I soaked in Chamole Tea and another 8 in 3% Peroxide mix. I kind wanna just see what the average germ time will be...A better test would be to do the same type of seed in each mix, maybe the next round I will do that.

Ok so seed soak all done..got 4 trays full of starters ready to rock...labeled sides and top so i could make a seed map instead of making tags for each pot

Only needed 3 trays today so have one ready to rock at least when my second order from garth arrives..well the first part anyways it was sent as 2 Christmas cards.

Now need to get out my new Heat mat that Santa brought me and get them all snug till hopefully Captain Hook apprears. Yaaaaar!!

One thing I am abit concerned about is trying to hit the right germ temps..I should of got some sort of thermostat for it...likely wont be able to for this year so may just see if I can find a cheap thermometer just to get into the right ballpark if I can for now.

I wouldnt worry too much about the temp, I had whole seed tray on it and the soil temp was only 85-90 degrees with it sitting on top of the fridge. No germ issues, but it was beneficial to get the seedlings out quickly after sprout
