Mattys first ever Glog "Into the fire" 2019 season

Hello everyone and thanks for looking at my "Into the Fire" Glog!!
 
So I started my gardening hobby in my early 20's about 16 years ago now, and though I have played around with many types of flowers/vegis  tomato's is what most of my energy was put into. I loved alll the different colors and types that could be grown which really reminds me of all the exciting Chilli variety's that exist today. A couple seasons ago while looking for some info on a particular type of sweet pepper I stumbled onto a few videos of some people eating super hots (Ghost,Reapers ect..).  After looking into it a little more I figured this would be a very interesting thing to grow even just as a novelty since really no one in my area grows much if anything at all.
 
Last Winter I went and bought some seeds from Ebay..one was a mixed bag Ghost/Reaper/Scorpion...another was the Peter Pepper and the third was some type of Thai i believe. Only the Thai ended up growing true to type and the other 2 was a Cayenne and Ornamental. I was pretty disappointed when they did finally start putting out pods. It was around that time I started looking for a group or forum dedicated to Chillis, and luck would have it I found THP and all of you fantastic peoples.
 
Anyways with the boring back story outta the way I really planned ahead for this years grow....I built a 6'Hx6'Lx2'D grow box (not exact mesurments) which has 3 shelves and the middle one able to come out if I wnated to grow larger plants from the bottom tier. I went overkill on seed types making 3 decent size buys, 2 of which were 30+ from Garth at TexasHotPeppers and a smaller one from a fella in Arz.
 
I do not plan to grow all of these as my wife would kill me, but 20 or so might not be so bad.

Will also get some pics up shortly here of my grow box which still has one more shelf I need to wire up just waiting on a few more strip lights to arrive in the mail, but will still give an idea of what it will all look like when its done.
 
In final: This is a new hobby for me within the hobby I already enjoy...I am going to try some new things (new for me) and even the much earlier starts then normal will be interesting to see how it all comes out at the end.  I look forward to the input from the community and keeping this glog updated as much as I can.

I will post a couple of the better looking plants in abit but trying to wrangle up dinner while work on this at the same time. I am taking out the ply wood and dropping the plants down away from the lights as they have gotten pretty tall and are getting a tad scorched

The one thing I really love aboot this community is the cheering section and the non stop props from everyone, it truly is awesome. So I can never thank you all enough for all of that guys :cheers: :beer: :hotsauce:

I noticed yesterday we were damn close I think one off at that time. Barely 3 months in and we are at 20 pages, at this point I would put money on 60??? 70??? by the end of the season perhaps.
 
I can just imagine some of the eye rolls our glogs get sometimes eh..lol damn yakkers never shut up  :fireball:

Yeah but maybe only 2-3 pages of information that is at all useful and the rest is just bullshatting with you guys. And of course learning is very important to me, but so is being social and making friends within this community to which most of you make it very easy to do so. :cheers: :cheers:

I should be ok in that regard, I hope anyways.......For sure they would likely outgrow the shelf if I had to keep them inside for 2 more months but being able to get them into my hoop house will help me get them outside alot sooner. Its not  huge but still 10x10, so more then big enough for what I have at least.
 
As long as we do not get any late season snow storms I should add, the wimpy little frame would not hold up any of that stuff. The plan is to build a better one just using cheap Econo studs when my in-laws come to visit in June-July which will take alot of the worry at least for the fall when I will need it again.
 
This past September Pretty much everything I had was done and literally the day before I was going to take the cover off I had left the door open that night......Of course a crazy storm whipped up throughout the night and tossed it a good 20 some odd feet away. I got lucky only 1 of the supports broke which I just used some JB weld to reattach it. I just need to squeak out the spring this year now.

Sounds awesome with regards to the hoop house; how big a difference does it make in terms of night time temperatures? How warm do you require it to be out there before you let them sleep outside?

Will be a fun project to build with the in-laws!

The hoop house certainly does have it limits being that its only PE material, I bet the a better quality greenhouse made of plexi or even glass would hold the heat alot better then mine. That said it still does a pretty good job, for instance during the day if the temp reaches say 8-9deg Celsius it gets warm enough inside where I have to open up the damn vents.
 
Nighttime I am alittle more cautious though and wont really leave them in without a smaller heater for just incase reasons, and that's around the 4-5 Celsius mark. Chance are it would be more then warm enough after building up heat all day but after putting a lot of work into everything (not just peppers) I am a tad leery to take that plunge eh.

You can see how thin the metal support frame is on it, thing really needs to be anchored down as well.
 
I can't ever complain aboot the size that's for sure, like they do make bigger models but I really would not have a good place to put it out of the wind liek I can with this one, and even then the freak storm still gives it all she can handle.
 
I have some 5 teir plastic shelves for it, and a couple fold up tables that I use as well inside, just to help keep everything off the ground when it is still abit cooler.
