planter size?

Looking for someone (that's everyone) with more experience for advice on pot/planter size.  Last year was the first time I tried to grow anything in pots.  I had a bunch of mismatched 5 gal buckets and various sizes of pots.  I'm going to buy all new this year and was wondering what size is everybody using for peppers. Is 3 or 5 gallon best? or something else.  Thanks!

Thanks Edmick and Juanitos, I guess size does matter.  I could only dream of using pots that big.  I guess 5 gallon it is.

That's a monster juanitos! I was gonna say bigger is better but that proves it.

Plenty of great 5 gal plants on here though.

I think alkhall uses 5 gallon buckets and his plants were loaded with pods.

A 5 gal pot is less soil than a 5 gal bucket too.
I think its only 3.75.

Cause the 15 gal pots I use don't hold a lot more soil than a 5 gal bucket.

You can probably get used 15 gal pots at the nursery if you have one near you. Maybe if you ask nice enough they have matching ones, but all mine are "junkyard" style. They charge 5 bucks a piece for them

It's funny, but being a paint contractor and having a garage and tool shed FULL of used 5 gallon buckets, I've never used one as a planter. I tried 1 and 5 gallon poly bags a couple seasons ago and did ok with them, and I have a few 10-15 gallon tree planters that came with...uh...trees, that I haven't had the guts nor the dirt $$ to fill. I'm planning to try a few fabric planters this year, I hear good things about them...

Actually, I was using ten gallon fabric pots.

I don't know if it's too late but a few weeks ago (the week before Christmas I went to Home Depot and wandered through the garden area they had several large planters marked down more than 50%. Also had different fertilizers marked down, I lucked out and bought a bunch of EarthJuice liquid ferts for $1.40 per qt,

i use 5 gallon buckets mostly,. big enough for lots of root growth but manageable if they need to be moved.

I've used many different size pots....I have only used bigger on a few occasions for reason above...

But the best growth and fruit production has been with 5 gallon...
