What's the oldest plant in your garden?

If you are not talking about just pepper plants, then, an estimated 430 years old. If you are talking about just peppers, then 5 years, but I think its going to be history and not make it for this coming season.

And I was talking peppers but all old plants are cool. What's the cause of the plant death - 5 years is a long life! What kind of pepper?

No, it is a cycad named Dioon edule. (My main focus has been cycads for the last 32 years) I have a sexed pair that was given to me by a botanical garden. They were brought to Miami in 1933. If you search utube for Dioon edule, and/or Tom Broome, you will find two videos of the sexed pair but the male is the oldest one of the two. I have several plants that were collected pre CITES that are over 150-200 years old.
The old pepper plants are ghost and brain strain. Others didn't make it last year when I cut them back and the ones that survived were all woody and didn't put out worthwhile tops. I'm growing in pots for pepper production for sale, so it is wasting space if it doesn't perform well enough
 
I have two 11 year old chili bushes. One is a tepin and the other a tepin cross.

I received the seeds as seven tiny berries (smaller than a pea). I only remembered about them and sowed them two years later. Of the five decent seeds three germinated and two survived.

The pure tepin is only 40cm tall - 11 years old and in the open ground!

The cross is almost 6 foot tall and is a winner! It does not stop flowering and fruiting during winter (USDA 7 Mediterranean climate) and has that awesome tepin flavour and heat.
