Giant Manzano?

I wonder if this giant manzano will produce giant offspring or if this is just some fluke of a mad scientist that grows and sells these to our local Latin Market where I can get them year 'round...?

I guess I'll have to wait 8 months to find out! Assuming of course that I don't kill them before then...

If those manzano pods were imported from Mexico, they are most likely irradiated. If that's the case, the seeds are probably completely sterile.

It's always worth a shot though, I guess. You are just going to throw those seeds out otherwise, right?

Hopefully they were grown in a very green, organic and forward-thinking area of Mexico where they don't irradiate fruit!
 
I bought some Manzanos from a grocery store last fall and saved the seeds. I did a sandwich bag germination test (70*F room temp) and went 10 for 10 after 19 days. 
 
However, the plants might not  like my summer temps, time will tell. I did buy some rocoto seed from Pepperlover that I hope will produce in my zone 7a.
 
I got some last year for the seeds at the local Kroger. Tried 3 different plantings of 10 seeds each and not one came up, so I guess they were fried before they got here.
 
Yeah only time will tell. I've harvested a few seeds from our local stores for this year's grow.

I wish our Kroger carried manzanos, although I don't mind driving across town every now and then. They have a nice selection of dried peppers too, guajillo, pasilla, ancho, mulato, etc. to make a great chili with!
