Crossbreeding!

I see a lot of people speak about crossbreeding different pepper varieties here. I am very new and dont really know anything about plants yet, but is there a limit to what you can crossbreed? Like, I dont know, could you combine peppers and uh...raspberries? Spicy raspberries? Its a silly question but Im curious. Please feel free to comment about your experiences with crossbreeding!

No. I am no expert on crossing, but from what I have seen the two species that you want to cross generally need to at least be in the same genus, and sometimes even then the cross is not possible.

So you can pretty much forget about spicy raspberries or tomatoes and the like.

If you want to learn about crossing peppers, there is a handy guide to it here: https://www.fatalii.net/Growing_chile_peppers/Breeding

Thank you! And dang, my plans to take over the world with like an apple with reaper levels of spice has been thwarted. Dang science

Generally the absolute maximum a species can cross within is it's genus, though there are several exceptions. This is true for Capsicum, as Annuum, Chinense, Frutescens and Baccatum can cross with each other but not with Pubescenes.

Okay so I told my friend the fact that I cant make spicy raspberries and he replied yeah and you cant make a catdog either. So thinking about it like that makes sense lmao

Haha! There is a joke, not sure if will work in English...

Two young animals meet in the forest, they look one to the other. One say:
-I never saw an animal like you.
-Same to me, say the other. What kind of animal are you?
-I am a wolf dog.
-What? How's that?
-Yes, my dad is a wolf, and my mother is a dog. And you, what animal is you?
-I am an ant bear!
-Oh, yes, right... Give me a break!

With the mention that ant bear is the name we use for what in English is called Giant Anteater.
If you don't catch it, let me know, will explain :)
