contest Southern Hemisphere Growdown 2019 - Proposal

So we getting to the last couple of months of 2018 growdown and time to think about what we can do next.

My proposal for this year is simple. Anything variety is game (except Annuum) and it has to be grown using 40l of soil or less (no hydro)

Points based on total weigh in and number of pods (maths to follow)

That way seeds become irrelevant (we all have something stuck away) and it will all be down to variety chosen and soil used

Any other ideas from those keen?

Great idea ! 40 liters of soil sounds good . I will have to measure a bucket for that .
It's all about testing the limits.

Sounds extremely cool. I was thinking of something similar for the future but without the soil constraint. I will be following.

So would coco and nutes to raise seedling be ok?

I'm keen. Maybe stick to a specific pepper type (Carolina Reaper seeds are common enough these days).

I think the idea, when we stick to a specific pepper type, is to start with seeds from a single source to start every one evenly.

Anyone have any idea how the maths will work?

As long as there is no moving parts (pumps / air stones / etc) I would say all ok. Final growing medium either Kratky or soil.

Too many variations on Reaper to make it level playing field. Could look at an SHU entry level - say 200k. That way fast growing and really big varieties are almost entirely excluded.

Been thinking about the maths and we keep it simple. Total weight wins.

How about we make another hyper-growdown for 2 years. Again, you upside downers can have your own, but we can make one for everyone.
I kinda like this idea SP. Set up a growdown that runs over a full two years. This way we either go indoors under lights or over winter. Pros and cons for both approach.

Get it up and running

All good and well.
Just remember the basics.
Useful peppers
Total weight.
I will say one year, 1 July to 30 June.

This tests everything.
Germination, medium, lights and adult plant growth.
