sun Sun Damage or Mosaic Virus or...

Have they been exposed to sunlight?

Sure looks like sunburn, or light burn from HID, lighting.

Are your temps stable? Been exposed to a cold snap recently?

Hard to tell but without other info, best guess from your pics.

Yes they've definitely been exposed to sunlight, a lot, I thought they'd been hardened off, BUT...

I'm thinking (& hoping!) you're onto something with the coldsnap thing. These plants are still in Solo cups, but I left then on my deck over night for a few nights, and the most recently of those nights, it poured down rain AND the temp does week into the 40s°F. And it was like a day after that I noticed these markings/symptoms or whatever.

Most of the afflicted plants are child that I was going to give away. I don't want to give anyone a virus, though. I'll hold off a few days and see if the symptoms spread or change, and offer more clues.

But yeah I never even thought the cold snap could be a factor.

Fwiw, I have seen plants with mosaic virus before, and this looks different... But I know there are different forms of MV. And my neighbor smokes like a chimney so I know that can be a factor....

I'm hoping this is just weather-related damage, and thanks again for cluing me in the temp changes, Masher... I'd still love to hear any other thoughts/theories from other growers.
 
I've seen them crunchy. And I've seen them, like, white and i dunno, like silky. And I've seen very mildly burnt ones just take on a purple coloration, I guess more like a suntan than sunburn. I've never seen my own sunburnt plants look like what I've pictured above before, but I've seen pictures like this online where ppl have said it was sun damage...I think that the severity of the burn might factor in...

But I'm wondering about the temperature change, bc yeah, this did pop up after a cold rain storm. I first noticed it when I was trying to get these poor plants to dry out a bit after the temp dropped to like 45°F during an overnight rainstorm.

Might be wishful thinking, though. I'm terrified of these untreatable, highly contagious viral issues.
 
Dark shading or white patches are tell tale signs of sunburn or light burn.


Pretty sure its first stage sunburn. 40's shouldn't cause darkening.

30's on the other hand could show some purpling in some pepper varieties.


I think they will be just fine, just keep an eye on them.
 
From a few years ago. The spots only came on the leaves getting the most direct Gulf Coast afternoon sun. Some leaves are spotted only on the portion sticking out from underneath the protection of spotted leaves. The morning sun side got no spots.

Yeah, further inspection and observation have less me to believe that it's just some sun burn.

I thought I'd hardened off thoroughly and I did, in terms of raw time Stormy outdoors but I guess most of that time was pretty cloudy days, and getting real intense sun this or week or so had take taken its toll.

A lot of leaves got burned up this weekend, as far as the stuff I've planted out goes. I'm confident all the plants will pull through easily, but it still has got to be a setback.
