Datil's getting stingers

Has anyone who has grown Datil peppers had any that grew stingers.  I took several pics but this is the only one that came out decent.  Some of the other one's are more scorpion shaped.  Almost all are getting a brownish/purple coloring which seems normal.

The purple tint is usually a relic of nutrients, I seem to recall nitrogen, but could be wrong.  If you are seeing different morphologies, that is interesting.  Is this plant a seedling from another generation or two that is showing variations?

I purchased the seeds from a nursery in Florida online so I don't know for sure what I got.  There are some more traditional shaped pods on the plant but they also have stingers. I'll try to post another pic.

Purplish coloring on pods is sun tan. It dont really hurt anything. Some deficiencies that cause purple on stems/veins (mostly) is lack of phosphorus. Purple splotches on fruit or leaves is usually just a tan.

Keep it, grow it, eat it, breed it.
That's the plan.  Well, if it ain't any good I doubt it will get bred.

Gotta be a cross. Wonder how it tastes/what the heat is like..?

I'll let ya know once it matures more.  By the way, I sent you some of these same seeds.  Don't know if you started them though.  I saw your glog but don't remember right now if they were on the list.

I'm not sure that's a stinger/tail (like on a Reaper or a Scorpion).

I see something similar from time to time on my peppers (even annuums).

I recall someone else on the forum suggested that it's just a pistol from the flower still hanging on/attached.

I received the seeds, but didn't think of have the real estate for the plants, so I saved them for 2020. As it turns out, I DID end up having room (got an extra bed at the Community Garden that would've gone fallow if I hadn't adopted it), so I ended up growing out a bunch of redundant culls. But the Datils will get their turn in my garden for sure... Unless I end up perishing by way of a 7Pot Brainstrain overdose on August, lol.
Thanks again for the seeds.
