Growing Peppers Indoors 400w Metal Halide

Hello everyone,
 
About a month or so back I started some pepper seeds growing indoor under light. The 400w Metal Halide recently got upgraded to a new more efficient bulb that should last 1.5 to 2 years without much diminishing intensity. This is usually a common problem with MH bulbs. So far I have 1 pepperoncini (oldest most bushy plant) Jalapeno hybrid (not sure which it is Edit It's called Ring Leader Hybrid) Banana pepper (Heirloom) and lastly a Jimmy Nardello (dinky/sickly/yellow looking plant) Not sure whats up with the JN plant possibly over watering. It's been growing for 3-4 weeks and is so small idk. Also just ordered Golden Marconi seeds can't wait to get them germing.
 
Soil - Promix bx, Seafood compost (mixed in the bottom half of the pot) That's it pretty simple
 
Light - 400w Metal Halide. Hate the yellow from HPS so I don't use those bulbs even though they are more bright light.
 
Light cycle - 24/0
 
Pruning method - Cut the tops of off the plant to grow more of a bush form
 
Pots - Currently growing in 7x7x8 square pots. Holds about a gallon of soil
 
Fertilizer - Maxiblood and Maxigro. Haven't bought maxigro yet because I read somewhere on THP forum Maxibloom is enough for both grow and flower. Can anyone confirm this?

I use 600 and 1000 mh.

I always have pods at plantout at 8+ weeks from seed.

Good luck with your grow, always fun getting a harvest indoors.

No need to waste money on 24hr cycle.

Awesome Masher! Might just buy a timer to set a different light schedule. For the moment anyway it'll be 24/0 simply because I don't pay for the light bill it's included in rent.

Not only the expense, which doesn't mater in your case,
but at the stage those plants are at, they need some resting
time to grow. Being day neutral, their growth takes place at
night. Even 4 hours of down time would be beneficial, but I
agree with Dan, 18/6 is good. I had good success with 14/10
on the PdN x BMJ plants this winter.

Can I get you guys opinion please? I have some round 10'' tall by 8'' wide pots I was hoping to transplant the plants into. Problem is they are the same height as the ones they are growing in now. The only other pots I have is 4 3 gallon fabric pots. Those would be good but I'm planning on starting 2 golden marconi which would bring the plant count up to 6. What would you do?
 
When I replant into the same container, I use my
3-prong garden cultivator to gently knock the bottom
couple of inches off the rootball and tease out the roots
so they hang down. Also, I carefully pick out the sides up
to 1" deep around the sides so the roots are sticking out.
Makes for sort of a bristly root ball. (Any roots hanging
down too far, just cut them out with a pair of scissors.
New roots will emerge above the cut.) Then, plant away!

I found some 3 gallon air pruning pots on ebay last night 5 for 8 bucks. Seemed like a good deal. It also allows me to start a few more seeds in 7x7x8 pots. I just plant seed in those till they need transplanting rather than starting with cups.

Hopefully these will arrive soon and the lot of 100 plant tags from ebay. The above seeds were purchased from Pinetree Garden seeds and Johnny's Selected seeds.
 
Some news to tell you guys. I will be starting over with new seeds once all the seed pack I ordered get here. It will just make things easier having everything the same size. I hope you aren't to disappointed we will be back on track in about a month since these seeds were started about 30 days or so. Sorry all.
 
Do note these plants are not going to die. My mother has agreed to take them to add to her garden. The only thing is I wont be able to harden them off. Hopefully her garden has enough shade (morning sun afternoon shade) So wish us luck.

Banana - Sweet
Peperoncini - Vary Mild
Jalapeno - Hybrid Hot
Jimmy Nardello - Sweet
Golden Marconi - Sweet
Hot Wax - Hot
Biquinho - Mildly hot (says a little heat so idk)
 
So I was searching for an ornamental pepper the other day and decided to buy Numex Twilight. With the 3 day shipping it was quite expensive but I wanted the seeds fast. Hopefully it will do good in the garden.
