I went by my parents place and checked in on their garden. My mom was insisting she bought a jalapeño plant but these do not look like jalapeños to me. The one on the bottom is obviously a jalapeño (not from same plant) the other ones came from the plant in question.

As a start, can we assume plat was purchased at a local garden store and not a big box outlet? The reason is the pod is an unusual color, very black, is it? Have any ripened to a different color, like red?
She bought it from garden center nearby that's pretty big. It does look darker and the skin is softer which is why it's looking wrinkled. They haven't ripened to any other color.The_NorthEast_ChileMan said:

That's a Chilaca. Low heat, taste reminiscent of a Poblano to me. When they're ripe they are pretty great!
