This killer chili pepper was declared world's most hottest chilli in februari 2012! It lost that title to Carolina Reaper which became world's hottest chili in november 2013. The average number of Scoville Units in the Trinidad Scorpion Moruga was 1,2 million with some chili pods even measuring 2,009,231 million Scoville Units.

Thanks NECM. That is a lot hotter than I thought, though I knew it was a very hot pepper but I was figuring about 1M SHU! I'm glad to know this as I have 4 of these and using more than a half a pepper in a hot sauce would be a serious mistake for me!

Not to burst your bubble but you have to remember the average was 1.2 million, which was close to what you figured, with a high of just over 2 - You'll note they didn't mention the lowest that will drag the 2 down to 1.2?

Either way, that is a really hot pepper for me as I typically use peppers in the Cayenne to Habanero range. Granted 1.2M is a lot less than 2M but even 1.2M is a scorcher! These will be an interesting addition to hot sauces but I'll use them in small amounts.
