Hi from Australia!

Great site.

I give up! Over the last 6 or so months I've slowly realised that there is no place like the USA for hot sauce and chilli pepper education. Good old Yankee know how.

It's just a shame it costs so much to post everything across the globe.

I love this place and am looking forward to getting a bit of an education.

Keep up the good work. :)

nope nope nope.......not gonna do the "hey are you gonna throw another shrimp on the barbie??" nope not gonna do it....

It's about time you found us then, Jeff. We look forward to educating you.

Dude, what kind of peppers do you have down there? Any native varieties?

Oh,BTW, welcome on!

Nothing that I know of. Most of the seeds I can get my hands on are from around the globe. There are a few interesting variety's at local nurseries...but again, are usually Thai hybrids or such. Although, what really kick started this ride was a plant I bought in a local nursery called Purple Rocket. I've never found a match on the internet. 9 out of 10 heat....I ate one whole off the plant on the way home in the car...like I normally do with the supermarket ones.

Then I finally understood I knew nothing about chilli heat. :)

I live in Sydney and the supermarkets are a joke for fresh peppers. Most all stock only 2 at best. A variety of birds eye (not the same as what you call a birds eye I believe)....just a very generic looking red pepper, perhaps 6 or 7 out of 10 heat, and Jalapenos. Even Cayenne is only for sale as a ground pepper in the herbs section. I'm sure specialty shops may do more but I'm yet to find any.

Supermarket chilli sauces are horrible, mass produced, plastic tasting, additive flavoured abominations...although I've recently noticed some of the smaller producers are finally starting to get their produce on the shelves.

For eg; http://www.byronbaychilli.com/

There are some nice local producers, but you usually have to buy online or mail order and even then, I prefer the North American flavours.

Ironically, after all I've tasted so far in my search for heat (and there are a lot more to try yet), my favourite is not that hot at all. Blair's Original Death Sauce. Man that's some tasty stuff.

Australia is very strict when it comes to importing most seeds. Basically it's illegal. I buy my seeds from a local company, who seem to have an amazing variety.

Here, have a look...tell me if there's anything the you don't recognise. I would be quite curious.

On the left hand side, there's a PDF of the seed catalogue.

Excuse the ramble.

You should be ashamed. tsk tsk... That show is hideous!

You'll be pleased to know that Dreamworks is releasing the Movie version.

That aside, I'll forgive you for trailer park boys, if you stick around, there's a lot we'd like to learn about Australian Chiliheads before Peppermaster cracks that market.

LOL!! Yeah mate, 'cept we don't talk funny, eh. I lived in Godford just north of Sydney for a bit. Welcome!! I have an aussie contact that sends me tubes of vegemite from time to time. We do a bit of a trade. Can't get it around here.

Trailer Park Boys? Hehe... yup, that's yer typical amurican... We don't have trailers here in Canada. It's all igloos. CN Tower Igloo, Skydome Igloo, Hey, you have that Opera House Igloo thing too. Maybe we're not so different.

Welcome Brother....! Oh, and BTW, Canadian Hot Sauce is MUCH better than American Hot Sauce, dontcha think Tina? (This is not an attempt at a flame war folks....LOL!!)

Mike/Muso

cheers muso :) but now i'm all confused...it's a canadian show isn't it? i thought they were mostly nova scotiarians?

tina, you're not wrong about it being a good market to crack.

but there are a few local companies doing well, it just seems there's no awareness throughout the majority of the general public.

you should see the stares i get when people notice i have a container of about 20 different chilli sauces at the bottom of my fridge.

it's always the same reaction, like...it never occured to them before.

still...i'm only one person. perhaps other aussies have different opinions.

well when it's your turn to be prime minister you can educate the general public.

unless I am misunderstanding Austalian politics

"Oh, and BTW, Canadian Hot Sauce is MUCH better than American Hot Sauce, dontcha think Tina?"

Yeah, ok. Considering the limited selection above the border, if you call "settling" better, so be it. LOL!!!

Welcome Aboard Jeff!

Cheers,
Cap'n
