Starting strawberries in hanging basket

I went to home depot for another light for my peppers, and I found they were already selling tomatoes, strawberries etc.

I picked up 6 strawberry plants and a hanging pot. I want to wash the dirt off the roots and transplant them to coco coir. I figure if I kill them I'm only out 6 bucks and I can go get some more.

Does anyone know if strawberries are hardy as far as transplanting goes?

Also, will 6 be too much for that pot? They strike me as a plant that wouldn't mind being clustered close together....

I'm not worried about the pot size as far as root space goes, you can get away with smaller pots when using coco coir, just the tops getting too crowded.

They are a very hardy plant but they are also root intensive, so keep that in mind when determining your pot size, but they don't mind being crowded.

A lot depends on what type they are. Some are runners, meaning they will start roots everyplace, others don't.

I'm going to have a bed of Alpine berries, which are everbearing (they produce fruit from June until the frost).
