"SunScraper" sunflowers in DWC can I support them?

Again I was bored and thought why should I just grow peppers. I don't really have a garden bed available for this and they're supposed to grow 10-12 feet. I was thinking I could grow 1 per 14G Rubbermaid roughneck Deep water culture but without all that soil for support idk how hard it would be to keep these up outside. any ideas? They are supposed to be very sturdy with thick stems according to BURPEE, but i have no experience with them. I know i could "stake them" but im looking for something a lil more specific as I tend to make things more complicated then they have to be :-p

Put three strings/ropes around the stem and tighten as necessary.
