What the hell is TWITTER

Not being funny, you tweet on twitter man. Seriously. That's all I know. Look it up.

I think a "tweet" is an SMS.
 
It's basically like what you're doing here, on this forum. You use it to message friends in your list. Say, you have five friends. When you "tweeted", your five friends would get a post to their list from you. Limit is 144 characters so it's not like you're trying to carry on a whole bunch. For most part it's a cool networking tool and a way to keep in touch with your group of friends that you go bar hopping with. So, you could tweet what bar you're at and all your friends would know where you were. That's the nutshell.

It's like broadcasting what you are doing at the moment. people can choose to follow your feed, and your feed can be carried in the massive live feed. Each tweet is limited to ~140 character, so it's telegraphish.

I don't know how Twitter makes money, but Google is interested because it can be VERY useful in mining current trends for advertizing purposes - so maybe their plan is to get bought. Brilliant and simple.

I follow British actor/comedian/writer Stephen Fry's feed, as well as others...

I recently started tweeting, just for the hell of it.

Since I got a G1 "smartphone" back in Feb, I started messing around on Twitter a bit. It can be REAL stupid but it does have some uses depending on who you choose to "follow".

I also found out I could take pictures with my phone and post them directly to twitter ( well, you have to click on the link in the tweet to see 'em but it's free and easy hosting.) Today I'm posting pics of ripe Nagas...yum.

Anyway, it can be interesting following the links people post. Where it gets stupid is folks posting things like:

"Im in line at Starbucks....so slow!"

"Heading to bed now. Got a headace"

"Going to the grocery store now"

"about to take a dump"


Jeezz, please....who gives a damn people! Fortunately it's real easy to "unfollow" people! The whole interface is brilliantly simple.

i'm not a huge fan of networking sites, some are good to keep in touch with far flung mates, but twitter seems just like a gossip site ( a simple way to tell everyone on your list that you've just had a shit)
it's a sad direction that humans are taking, i mean more and more folk talk less face to face but you feel fine talking to your neighbour on the street but you are on each others friends list on some network site!!
