Need the experts opinions regarding my chilies

Hi all!

My first post here. Been reading alot tough.

I have recently built a hydroponic system (Bubbler) in wich I'm growing various types of chilies. But about 2-3 days ago, my babies got sick...

Most of the plants have gotten more and more yellow-isch, with dark parts on the leafs, as you can see in the photos below. I suspect nutrient deficiency. I think that I waited to long to change the solution (three weeks, 50 litres) so I did that yesterday. The pH-level is about 6.5-6.8 if that's any useful information. What does the experts say?

Yes those plants in the pictures looked similar to mine. So if it's the nutrients that's low, is it just to wait for some time for things to start looking better (greener) since I changed the solution yesterday?

I would give them a foliar feed with epsom salts (1 Tbsp/15ml per gallon or 3.8 liters)...eiher way that sure as the devil won't hurt them...

You can probably find them in the local drugstore or even grocery store near the medicine. Just make sure you don't buy the stuff with perfumes or colorants in it, look for pure epsom salts.

They're also used as an aid for sore muscles and constipation, so if you find some that have directions for mixing and drinking, they'll likely be pure with no additives.

Welcome! and good luck with your plants.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll have a good time here :)

I ordered the salt at my local healthcare store. I havnät checked if there are any additives in it but I'd think not.

I get the feeling from the posts above that it would be a good thing to spray this salt solution on my chillies every once in a while?

i think they getting to much water that what happend when i over water mine they turn yellow.

Well, that's kind of the point with a hydroponic system ;) But thanks for the input.

It could be imaginary but I think that they are slowly turning greener. I'll spray som Epsom salt on them on wednesday and see if they forgive me for my lack of caring the past week.

Peppers are pretty forgiving as long as you make up for neglecting them. I'm sure they'll forgive you after a nice dinner and an Epsom salt shower.

im not familar with your schedule, but
DWC deep water culture needs to be fresh with lots of air,and should be changed every 7-10 days maximum in a 40 gallon tank for mature plants.
also, when topping off buckets use fresh water only ,do not add nutrient to top off bucket.
ph should be kept from 6.5 to 6.8...ph is critical in DWC since there are no buffers to protect roots from out of sync nutrient solution,so mixing correctly is important.

if dialed in correctly ,it will out yield most any other type of grow.
dialed incorrectly and you will have nothing but problems.

coco fibre is the way and so much less time/labor consumeing.
1 man can do a 40 x 120 greenhouse and still have time to go fishing ,occasionally.

good luck

hi naurin,
something I would recommend you get and add to the fresh nutrient mix is,
Hygrozyme organic enzyme...
its expensive and effective and i wont grow without it indoors under lights.
It keeps the nasties at bay in your nutrient tank,it eats dead matter and old brown roots, releaseing nutrients in a useable form directly to the plants, and the tank stays clean and fresh smellin, like sour mash whiskey.
5ml per gallon per fresh nutrient tank and you wont have many root problems, the roots should be white as snow if they are healthy plants grown in DWC.

it will not effect ph or ec values and the plants thrive .
i yield avg last season was 3.5 kilos per 7inch sq pot in ebb n flo of fatalii and Bhut Jolokia was closer to 5 kilos per pot.
the plants did not stop growing,i just needed to move on. the best jolokia I still have .

Hygrozyme not Hydrozyme...both are available and are claimed similar..they are not.

good luck
pablo
