#1592643 Carolina Reaper Plant Problem

Posted by NeedsWork on 10 November 2018 - 06:06 PM

I'm not sure about the leaves, but I agree with the others.  That stem looks like it's too wet.  I've lost several prized plants to the same problem.  Try stripping some leaves and carefully potting it up higher on the stem with a mix that drains well.  I'd add soil around the roots, water, then put dry on top around the stem.  Add a fan for some airflow.  I can usually save 75% if I catch them early enough.

#1592641 First Hard Freeze Tonight... Last Harvest 2018

Posted by NeedsWork on 10 November 2018 - 05:52 PM

The temperature is supposed to dip down to 29F tonight.

Purged the irrigation lines and then did the last harvest

On the bright side, 2018 has been a great year in the garden for peppers.

Always a tough night when the season ends.  :(

The war is on after neem and dish soap wouldn't do the trick.  I guess lady beetles like sugar water and raisins - so my wife and I made them a home.  :D

Aphids, thousands of aphids appeared over a two day span.  I've never had them before in my 4 years of grow tenting.  I knocked them back with neem tonight.  Ladybugs are on order.

#1589791 Good Soil and Nutes

Posted by NeedsWork on 26 October 2018 - 03:09 PM

Hey guys, I am pretty new to gardening and was wondering what would a good pot soil mixture be? I am also wondering what a good nutrient solution and a good pot size would be?

I've had good luck with soil and nutrients from both Fox Farm and Roots Organics.  Lots of members post their own soil mixes.  I just don't have the time/space.

I grew in a 50 gallon grow bag this year.  It was a bit much.  Maybe start in the 10-20 gallon grow bag range?  You can always transplant to a larger pot if you want to go bigger.  It has been my experience that it is more difficult to go smaller.

Happy growing!

#1584472 Grow tent ventilation around the clock critical?

Posted by NeedsWork on 29 September 2018 - 11:46 AM

I've had a 122 x 244 x 183cm tent for three or four years now.

I run a large oscillating fan 24/7 to keep air moving (prevent damping off).

I keep a ducted inline fan on this temperature controller:

https://www.amazon.c...troller inkbird

The primary reason I have it is to pull heat out of the tent and send it outside.  I suppose it also helps with air exchange / humidity.

To answer your question :D I think you are fine turning it off at night as long as temp / humidity is stable.  I would suggest running a quieter oscillating fan if you can tolerate it.  I've had bad luck with damping off .

Adding a few more.  It seems to be making the most out of the tent.  Temps have really cooled off here, slowing plants down.

Knocked a few more off.   :mope:

It isn't happy, but it's the only way it will make it to 12/31.  With lows in the 40's and sunlight fading, I decided it was time.
