#1538993 Hello From an Indoor Pepper Enthusiast

Posted by ledgardener on 20 March 2018 - 12:35 AM

:welcome: From Melbourne, Australia.

Just coming to the end of our summer so planning an indoor tent grow, 31 cents per KwH power prices and space constraints are my main concern.

Q: When dimmed, do LED's retain their colour spectrum? - I'm coming from HPS and thinking of buying a dimmable LED so I can dictate the power consumption depending on my needs; which could be fluid.

Q: As my outdoor plants canopies seem to have a diameter twice that of the pots diameter, should I have an indoor plant pot half the diameter of available per plant grow space?

Thanks.

For the first question, yes, they do; It'll look the same, just less intense.

As for the second question, I think there are a lot of variables at play here like how long you'll be growing it, whether you're hydro or soil, etc. I don't think it'd be too hard to fill out a small tent with a single plant in hydro. The pepper experts can probably answer this better than I can though.

Anywhere between 3000K and 4000K will work nicely.

Thanks all :D

The blog is focused on teaching about DIY LED lights and can be found here!

I'm currently gearing up for a kratky or bubble bucket grow (haven't decided yet) with a handful of different peppers:

7 pot bubblegum red, chocolate brainstrain, jalapeno, cow horn sweet, banana pepper, caramel moruga scorpion, and trinidad scorpion.

They are all hanging out in rockwool cubes under a pair of HLG QB96 right now:

They will eventually go into a 4'x8' space under 8x HLG Quantum Boards:

I have seen your videos, and I also follow your website regularly  :P

And from seeing those videos, im getting these lights are very impressive (I mean just look at the specs). That is why im asking if I could "just" go with the 135W model. But I guess I could always dim the bigger model in case it gets too intense, and once in for all get rid of my burple light

 Nice!

I think you'll find that a single board won't quite cover that space. If you put it smack-dab in the middle, your PPFD would really drop off on the edges. I'd double up if you can afford to.

How hard can you run those boards without a sink?

I've done extensive testing with all of HLG's boards. A 260W kit will be the best match for that space.

Hey all. I run a blog about indoor gardening with LEDs and my crop of choice is peppers. Looking forward to chatting about them.
