Chitosan

09 August 2011 - 09:08 PM

Anybody using Chitosan? Have you heard of it before? It's a brand new product for this person.

Here's a link; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitosan

As some of you may remember; I've been dealing with soil problems for almost 2 years. Basically; my plants do well for the first 9 months and then go into a steady decline until they finally die. Nothing, including composting, H2o2, wood vinegar, and EM have altered the cycle of life, fruiting, and death.

I'm now 4 days in from my first application of Chitosan; 4 young (60 days) Costa Rican Red Habaneros and 1 very sick chocolate Habanero. Next Sunday I'll apply another dose. So far so good.

Any feedback is welcome, cheers.   :)

Long time away...

07 July 2011 - 12:55 AM

Hi everyone, I've been away for almost a year after a pretty decent harvest; lot's of orange, red, and some chocolates. Everything else went south, so-to-speak.
Question; do the yields and size diminish over time? Remember, I'm in Thailand where the temps are okay all year. Long story short; all of my plants gave up and died after about 18 months.
Is this normal?
Anyway, I've replanted orange and red Habaneros from the seeds I harvested and the reds are looking good. No pepper porn; they don't look that good.

Wanted; Jalapeņo cornbread recipe

Anybody out there got a good cornbread recipe? My Jalapenos are ripening and I'd like a nice cornbread to put them in with some chili con carne. Cheers.

Wood Vinegar

15 November 2010 - 10:11 PM

A friend of my wifes (in the Ag department) gave her a bottle of wood vinegar to use on my C. chinense. I just started using it yesterday as an insecticide and foliar food.
I'm still having soil issues which don't show up until about 3 months after planting. This is true for both my potted plants and the plants in the ground. In one of the links I found (it's at the bottom of this thread), it talks about chili plants and Nematodes. So, today I mixed a 1:100 ratio (wood vinegar to water) and watered 4 of my worst plants; soaking the entire root zone to see if it will help.

Anybody else used or using wood vinegar? Cheers

Genuine Dorset Naga not Setting Pods

08 November 2010 - 01:52 AM

A friend and I are growing plants from the same batch of seeds. Mine are doing fine, but his 1 of his 2 plants is flowering and not producing pollen; thus, no pods are setting. His other plant is setting pods.
He'd like to know why there is no pollen and I don't know the answer. Anybody?
