#1509966 How to turn hot sauce into pepper jelly.

Posted by PexPeppers on 09 December 2017 - 03:53 PM

It's incredibly easy. You just need some type of sweet hot sauce, pectin, sugar, jars, and a canner. I have not tried it with a savory/fermented sauce yet, but I'm sure it'd work! Here is the original recipe if you want to share it anywhere. https://www.pexpeppe...r-pepper-jelly/

Now, on to the show.

You will need the following ingredients.
  • 6 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 bottle of any type of sweet/fruity hot sauce.
  • 1/2 tsp margarine
  • 1 pouch Certo Liquid Pectin
  • 8 half pint canning jars with lids and bands
Directions:
  • Bring boiling-water canner, half-full with water, to simmer. Wash jars and screw bands in hot soapy water; rinse with warm water. Pour boiling water over flat lids in saucepan off the heat. Let stand in hot water until ready to use. Drain well before filling.
  • Combine Painapple Hot Sauce, Vinegar, Margarine, and Sugar in a pot. Bring mixture to full rolling boil (a boil that doesnt stop bubbling when stirred) on high heat, stirring constantly.
  • Stir in pectin and then return mixture to a full rolling boil and boil exactly 1 minute while stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Skim off any foam with metal spoon.
  • Immediately fill jars while filling to within a quarter inch (7.5mm) of tops. Wipe the jar rims and threads and then cover with the two-piece lids. Screw bands down tightly and then place jars on elevated rack inside canner. Lower the jar rack into the canner. Your water must cover jars by 1 to 2 inches. You can add boiling water, if necessary. Cover the canner and bring the water to a gentle boil. Process 10 min. Remove jars and place upright on towel to cool completely. After jars cool, check seals by pressing middles of lids with finger. If the lid do springs back the lid is not sealed and refrigeration is needed

Here is the final product

#1509735 PexiePoo's '18 Glog. Now with more Quantum Board & COB LED.

Posted by PexPeppers on 08 December 2017 - 09:01 AM

Hoping there is a step by step process, with pictures! Been interested in putting together my own system as well but I'm not very handy so a pioneer in this area is well needed!

Good luck

Whenever I build another one I'll take pictures and what not. but in the mean time, watch this and everything else by him.

I love building things, particularly electronics. That lead me to building a grow light of my own. I used to be an HID kinda guy; think of High Pressure Sodium, LEC, and the like. LED lighting has never been for me as far as the red, purple, blues (think of Mars Hydro, Black Dog, KindLED, etc) but now, I really think they are. Here is the parts list:

It was built using two 5-foot sections of 3/4" angle aluminum to cover a 6ft table. the rest of the stuff is from cobkits.com

All together it costed about 280 before separate tools (hand held hacksaw for the rails and a rivet gun to tack it all together)

that's another blurple. 2 of those would work but if you're going LED you want either COB (this type: http://timbergrowlights.com/) or some of those boards. they are DIY type lights just so you know, so some assembly is required. I would either stick with 2x of those quantum boards, a timber grow light (or build your own), or a single 630w CMH. The multi colored LED's will lead to disappointment/more lights.

you could light up that 5x5 (same size I have) with a 630 watt CMH or two of the LED I linked. with that 4x8 you could grow way more as its 32 sq ft instead of 25. A rule of thumb I like to go by:

50w/ sq ft HPS
40W sq ft MH
30W/ sq ft LED/COB
35W sq ft CMH/LEC
60w/ sq ft cfl

Hey thanks for this detailed reply, unless I just read over some stuff through the links I was wondering what the lighting area would be with something like LEC kit you linked. I'm also not a talented electrician by any means, so the discussion of wattage and amps etc etc is very quickly lost on me - however I believe a wattage that high would cost quite a bit on the electricity bill if I did a 16-8 lighting schedule.

I think this option is very doable, I just think that with a light as powerful and costly as that I would hope it could grow at least one side (or the majority of one side) of the room. If I need to have one of these lights every 3 feet that'll be an issue. Again, sorry if I read over this information.

large grow spaces require lots of light! with that much grow area packed with plants growing from start to finish you would need  around 3000 watts of light (10 of those lights)! Good thing they make light movers. If you just want to do a corner of it, why not make it into a room dedicated to a few plants. or alternatively get a grow tent or two

I know you don't want to spend a ton of cash but these are the best grow lights I have ever used. Very low heat and ultra bright. Don't fall for the blue + purple + red + white cheapy grow lights aka Blurple (think Mars Hydro, Vivaspectra, any of those). They dont say the actual watts, just the equivalent. its all marketing. These however do give you actual watts. one of those "600w" mars hydro lights will pull about 200 some from the wall. Anyways, here are the lights. You can also use T5HO lights.

I own 4 of these haha.

I know you got the seeds late, but did you get a chance to start any SB7J this season? Just wondering how they were doing.

Theyre doing great! take a look yourself. the cluster of 6" pots on the left are SB7J, so are the 2 round in the middle, and the other six are yellow 7 pots. the two in the solo cups are Pueblo Mosco Chiles. Clones in Square Pot are "Power Grapes"

#1475551 How do you transact money?

Posted by PexPeppers on 15 July 2017 - 02:06 PM

You can't please everyone but you may want to look into Stripe. https://stripe.com

Modern processor similar to PayPal w/o the stigma attached (some people just hate PayPal and sometimes for no good reason). Can also accept ACH.

Or simply thank them for visiting your store and let them know that you offer no other options for them.

I personally use Stripe and Paypal to keep peoples options open. Hell my site even accepts Bitcoin and over 70+ "Alt-coins" for payment methods.

Plants weren't doing so well this year and I couldn't afford the water they needed so unfortunately I am down to 5 plants, 3 of them being in this flood table (25 gallons a week instead of ~600). This flood table is AMAZING for resurrecting very sick plants. I used about 13 TBSP of General Hydroponics MaxiBloom per 25 gallons of water
