Best herbs to add to garden?

Hello all,

I've been absent from the forum but still plodding along with a few peppers. This year I am getting a raised bed in a community garden and am very excited to be growing 4-5 types of peppers. I wanted to add a few herbs to the garden as a barrier between my peppers and legumes (I've read mixed messages on whether they should be planted next to each other). I know I want oregano, probably some cilantro, maybe a basil. I would really like a rosemary plant, but from what I've seen, they go crazy and take up a lot more room than I'd want them to. Can a rosemary be kept controlled with regular trimming? Are there any other herbs that I'm not thinking of that might make a good addition?

Thanks!

New Yorkers don't have oregano on pizza?
That's not pizza, just a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich

be careful with oregano/majoram it spreads quite quickly - I quite like it sprouting up through the grass and getting the smell of pizza every time the mower comes out :D
Thanks for the warning! My source for oregano has been a friend's garden, so I've seen how it can move around (though not as bad as mint, I think!) Alas, I just moved about 40 min away from her, so close enough to snag a starter but not do a regular harvest.

I think your autocorrect did something there @Tinkerbelle. I mean, no-one puts baked beans on pizza, right? (Honestly, never heard of baked bean pizza.)

Also, team oregano here, when it comes to pizza.

And as for herbs in the garden, have a go at papalo and pipiche. My partner hates papalo with a passion, I would kill for it. We make a lovely, but dangerous couple.

Papalo is a good one that doesn't get much attention outside of Mexico.

Never heard of those 2 herbs, I like what I've googled about them, will keep a watch for seeds.

@elnewt if you want to grow mint, grow it in a pot and sink the pot in the garden (or just keep it in the pot), stops it spreading so much
