Can Meds change your tolerance?

I've got a couple of health issues that require daily medications and I think they're having an effect on my heat tolerance. I recently added a new med to the routine and after a few days it started. How do I know? I had a couple of french fries a few nights ago and the ketchup was hot! I doused yesterdays eggs with Trinidad Congo pepper powder and I thought my head was going to melt.

Has anyone else ever had this experience?

Ok so we get to the point where we need really hot to get the endorphin rush, then hotter and hotter. Kind of like the alcoholic that needs more and more alcohol. Congrats on finding a way to lower your tolerance to the level of a non chilehead. Enjoy the endorphins.

i know for a fact that medication lowers your tolerance. my wife took a medicine about 25 years ago, ever since then, she has had zero tolerance for me.

I think it does Patrick - I dont have proof- but I believe it can make you hypersensitive for a time. Possibly with Bp meds or meds with Niacin where the blood thins or rushes to the epidermis. Myself I have found that it eventually wanes and you'll be back to your old/better self

I'm familiar with meds that heighten your tolerance, but lower is just plain ol' crazy. why would you take that med?

I have been out at times, and regular capsicum (bell peppers) seem too hot, but in actual fact my mouth was having issues with the acidity. I don't know how acidic peppers actually are, but sometimes it is not the chilli oils, but the acidity. Many factors including oral hygiene can affect this. I don't know the specific cause.

Raelacea, Bromocriptine mesylate, shrink a brain tumor.

OMRI, not taking the drug to mess with increasing or decreasing my tolerance. Just curious if a drug can.

Obviously it is a side-effect, but I would stop taking it if it makes me that sensitive.

Bromocriptine acts through neurotransmitters. It is influencing the wiring of your body, how the cells are communicating with each other. I think your body is reinterpreting the capsaicin signals.

So you would stop the meds and just let the brain tumor grow. I think I'll just deal with the ketchup being spicy for a while.

thaichillihead you got some med/pharm smarts. Thanks for the words.

Did not mean that, Patrick.
I'm taking certain meds myself and I have to take them... I took one that made me extremely sensitive. at first my teeth became REALLY sensitive to heat/cold and then everything just hurt. I stopped taking them and went with a different med. if there's no other med, obviously it's the lesser evil.

I wish you a full and quick recovery, dear friend.
