chinense I'm confused about the Datil pepper

This year, I grew datils both from a lineage I got while on a trip back to St. Augustine and the Baker Creek free datils. My experience was that the Baker Creek datils were better than I had feared, definitely worth using in hot sauces, but I'm going to stick with my true datils. The Baker Creek...

chinense I'm confused about the Datil pepper

I have two types of datils growing this year. The first comes from a lineage of 3 datil plants I brought back from St. Augustine on my last visit a few years ago. They are not growing well this year - even the overwintered plant. My datils have always been 4-5 feet tall in 5 gal pots, but now...

    misc Unthrifty Buena Mulata

Yeah, that's my best guess, too, just weird that that's the only pepper (and only plant period) that it happened to, and in a raised bed that should have better drainage. Trying to get some more seedlings started in hopes that I can get a little bit of a late harvest with it and then overwinter...

    recipe-help Veggie and Legume recipes

Hello all! Looking for spicy recipes for veggies and legumes (beans, lentils, etc). I'm always looking for new ideas and these categories tend to be the hardest to find. While I don't need vegetarian or vegan recipes, I am looking for meatless recipes (tasty meat recipes are always easy to...

    misc Unthrifty Buena Mulata

I wonder if that could have been my issue. It was growing fine until we got a lot of rain. I wouldn't think it would have been enough to cause issues, especially in a raised bed, but who knows?!

    misc Unthrifty Buena Mulata

Thank you for your thoughts. Did you think you were overwatering or underwatering them?

    misc Unthrifty Buena Mulata

Hello all, Anyone have any experience with buena mulata peppers? Do they tend to be unthrifty? Sensitive to sunlight or excess water? I'm trying to figure out why my other pepper plants (volante peach cross, datil, Baker Creek "datil", Thai, sugar rush peach) are thriving but both of my buena...

chinense I'm confused about the Datil pepper

I guess I need a better picture of the "lovely purple stripes" for my profile 😁 Seriously, tho, I probably took a hundred pictures of the purple forming on the peppers the first year I grew them. I'd heard about it but never seen it before.

chinense I'm confused about the Datil pepper

Thanks for this thread! I got free datil seeds from Baker Creek. I decided to plant some of those as well as some of the seeds I've been saving from a lineage of datil peppers I bought last visit to St. Aug (used to live there many moons ago - my profile pic is from a datil pepper in that first...

Best herbs to add to garden?

Weirdly, the very first time I ate cilantro, it tasted overwhelmingly of soap! And yet, I've never tasted soap in cilantro again. I have never heard of anyone else who has both tasted and not tasted the soap in cilantro. I feel for those who taste the soap, because that's AWFUL.

Best herbs to add to garden?

Thanks for the warning! My source for oregano has been a friend's garden, so I've seen how it can move around (though not as bad as mint, I think!) Alas, I just moved about 40 min away from her, so close enough to snag a starter but not do a regular harvest.

Best herbs to add to garden?

Good to hear! I'll just be prepared for constant whittling.

Best herbs to add to garden?

Oooh, that is tempting! My original plan was to rip a bit of oregano out of my friend's garden (I've been able to successfully reroot it before), but I am always curious to try new and interesting things.

Best herbs to add to garden?

Hello all, I've been absent from the forum but still plodding along with a few peppers. This year I am getting a raised bed in a community garden and am very excited to be growing 4-5 types of peppers. I wanted to add a few herbs to the garden as a barrier between my peppers and legumes (I've...
