Well despite the fungus gnat and aphid infestations trying to destroy everything I am finally managing to get some kind of growth, so my labours haven't been completely in vain. Although a few of my plants are looking fairly healthy - mainly those in plastic beakers, strangely enough - many...
Asked my wife if there were any plans before I go in to late shift today. Her reply? "I should imagine you'll be busy killing triffids!
Kind of puts a new angle on how serious the problem COULD have been in a parallel universe :seeya::D.
Thanks for the suggestion, CD. I'll try that with the few which are alone in their containers, but they are still mainly either in twos or threes, or in a tray with multiple pods in it. Here's a video I followed to get rid of most of them in the meantime. I'll maybe try twisting the tape into a...
Well that's a beginner's mistake I won't make again. I had noticed quite a few fungus gnats flying around, and assumed they were to blame for the slow growth of some of my plants. To prevent them getting into the soil, I mulched most of the seedlings with quartz sand. A couple of days later, I...
Just found a bit of time, and it looks like you're spot on. Since they're still a bit young and fragile to be blasting with water, I reckon there's nothing else for it but to try the old sellotape trick. Oh well, here goes. Thanks, Sulsa 👍.
Just found some of my seedlings looking like this. Could someone please tell me what this is to save me having to search, as I have to prepare for my daughter's birthday party and am a bit short on time? Thanks.
Will do. I'm off to Scotland in a couple of weeks and don't want my wife to have to take care of seedlings for me - kind of just hoping most of my young plants will still be alive when I get back 😅 - so I'll try it again towards the end of April once I'm home.
After just a little more than five days, two of the three seeds have sprouted, which I think is about average for Jalapeños anyway. At least I know I didn't destroy the seeds by cutting off too much of the nose, so I may just try again, snipping off just a touch more to see if I can get them to...
Well I tried it with seeds which I know are viable.
Maybe I snipped too much of the nose off... or too little.
Maybe the pads were too wet... or too dry.
Maybe the temperature was too warm... or too cool.
Whatever the problem, after 36 hours, still no sign of a sprout.
Has anybody else tried...
Same subject but a slight digression. Anybody know how reliable these light meter apps for smartphones are? Downloaded one out of curiosity, as I'm waiting for a light meter to arrive on Tuesday. No idea what the PAR values at the seedling tops are, since I can't justify the expense as a hobby...
At a guess, I think your lights are probably around 6 to 8 inches above the seedlings, which seems to me a little close for LEDs. Running at 40% would of course mitigate that to an extent, so you should be OK, but better to wait for someone who really knows what they're on about to chime in 😁 .
